Hi All,

I've managed to get my grubby hands on a couple of 21st Century MC205, but i have no references. Can anyone help with any on line refs, as SWMBO will kill me if i get any more books. She keeps telling me our flat is NOT a tardis :analintruder:,

TIA,

Rodders.

Thanks Guys for the help. I know even having two hearts the answer would be the same

Cheers.

I seem to remember someone on here saying it was closer to the MC202? cannot remember who it was, but if that is the case you can get the 3D drawings and also a load of other bumf here

Hi,

I think it may have been me who made the comment. Not having the 21st Century kit to hand (mine are in the loft as I am building a Hasegawa MC202 at the moment) I'll have to go off memory,The kit had originally been designed as a MC202 .I think the only concessions that were made to convert the kit from a MC202 to a MC205 was inclusion of an alternative lower nose section containing the oil coolers and 20 mm wing cannons. The model has a MC202 spinner, the MC202 spinner was very pointed while the 205's was blunt it's a very noticeable difference and in my opinion the blunter spinner along with the oil coolers destroys the fine lines of the aircraft. The kit has a fixed tail wheel again a feature of the MC202 the MC205's was retractable, note also the tailplane and elevator are only suitable for a series XI MC202 and above. You can delete the cannons, as the MC202 carried machine guns in the wing (I think it was Series VII and above that introduced the wing mounted machine guns before that none were carried) but I understand that due to the effect on performance the machine guns were not always fitted anyway.I think it would be easier to alter the nose and then build a new air intake to get a MC202 than to correct the errors in the MC205 kit to get an accurate MC205, the choice is yours :undecided:

All the best,

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

Thanks for the help. I have to admit my knowledge of Italian aircraft is akin to my knowledge of knitting(which my wife is really good at), so i'll have to swot up,

Thanks,

Rodders.

But Rodders, to swot up on the plane you will need a book :analintruder: "Catch 22" me ol' son.

The biggest issue with those 21st Century Macchi's is the main wheels, which are vastly undersized. If you correct that, you'll also need to modify the gear since the corrected wheels won't fit. Either way I've seen some of these kits built into really great models. You'll find the decals alone are worth twice the kit price!

Thanks Dave, After going on about the differences between the MC202 and 205 I'd forgotten to mention that the wheels are undersized. :wall: I am not aware of any suitable sized wheels do you know of a possible source? To maintain strength perhaps it would be best to make the replacement yokes out of brass strip. I've not checked but do you know if the main undercarriage legs above the yokes are the correct length?

Regards,

Malcolm
