dambuster
Hi, I have been gradually getting around to building the load for an LCT 4 as used in the attack on Walcheren in Nov 44. Armour comprised a mix of Churchill AVRE, Churchill Facscine, Sherman, Buffalo, Weasel, D7 Dozer. My question is what would be the correct colour green for these? As a newbie to armour I haven't really got any idea and a quick search through these forums hasn't given me an obvious answr. Thanks Peter
daz greenwood
The correct colour would be British Olive Drab SCC15 it is available as an enamel from White Ensign Models. HTH. Cheers Daz
Red Dragon
The Weasel, D7 and Buffalo could be in Amercan Olive Drab as after mid 1944 American vehicles delivered to British forces were not to be repainted, hence the introduction of S.C.C. No:15 (British Olive Drab) as this was close enough to the U.S. Olive Drab. As Daz mentioned these paints are available in enamel from White Ensign. dambuster
Thanks for the fast responses. Have got some B&W photos so will try to see if there is any noticeable difference between the British and US equipment. Peter
davidelvy
British Olive Drab also available in Xtracrylix, if you want to use acrylic paint.
spitfire
SCC 15 was supposed to match the US OD, so fresh paint would be pretty much the same, however they supposedly weathered diferently, one weathered to a brownish tint (US) and the other to a greenish tint (SCC 15). Test Graham
For the best information on this colour consult the work of Mike Starmer, either his book or the information on MAFVA site. He wasn't over-impressed with the WEM SCC 15, but provides mixes using Humbrol and Revell for British Army colours.

IIRC, Mike recommends equal parts Humbrol 155 and Revell 42 for US Olive Drab No.9 and Humbrol 159,150 and 33 in ratio 5:5:2 for SCC15. DeltaJ
Like said, if you want precision mixes it's best to look on Mike Starmer's publications. I've used his mixes for my Early War BEF vehicles, & they were as precise as you get, but I haven't yet looked at the Late War mixes. From my previous experience, I've been told Vallejo 924 Russian Uniform is a great match for Late War British vehicles. Anyhow, have this document & you'll beable to work something out http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/Starmer%20camo.htm
