Neil
A bit misleading putting this in the Ready For Inspection bit, from more years ago than I care to remember.... Using the 1/48 Monogram kit. The real one first.
Phil @ Flory Models
She's a beaut Love the weathering on the starboard wing, was it the parcel tape rip off method
Mike
Lovely job Neil - let me guess, you were 15 when you built it? I think you & a few others got my share of talent
dswoofie
Niiiiice! I really like the weathering, very well done. A great finish. I especially like the comparison with the real one. Always nice to have that. Karl.
desmojen
Bloody hell Neil! That (rocks) Awesome stuff, love the way you used a photo of the real thing and weathered it to match, great stuff! Jen.
LeeTree
Whoa.....that's very nice....you certainly turned that average kit into a fantastic model. Thanks for sharing the pics, mate. Edited August 6, 2007 by LeeTree
Neil
Love the weathering on the starboard wing, was it the parcel tape rip off method Ta peeps, that was built at least 12 years ago I think. The starboard wing weathering was achieved by spraying it first with SnJ (or was it Alclad?) and then masking areas with liquid latex type stuff, then sprayed with the camo colours etc. After the final coat of Matt Varnish was sprayed on, the dried laytex was peeled off to reveal the aluminium underneath. Here's another (blurry) pic of the real one from a slightly different angle.
Mike
I guess it had a replacement outer wing at some point? Looks a well used example...
mungo1974
The question is have you still got it? Having seen this model when Neil first built it i have to say it look awesome back then and still does in the pics. BTW Neil got any pics of your "Bit O' Lace" you did? Both of these models kinda put me off building Fort's~ to much to live up to...LOL

Nope, left my hands years ago, that one went to Robert Taylor. Will have a rummage around and see if I have any of "A Bit O' Lace", that's going back a bit too. Any info on what happened to the real "Princess Pat"? Realluy nice , and as rdxtnt saiod what happened with the real plane? Not entirely sure, but I think it may of crash landed at some point? Oliver
Neil, this is one i saw back in the ARC gallery ages ago and saved every picture, as its just so amazing. When i get round to building my B-17 (an F model) if i can make it look even a tenth as good as yours i'll be a very happy man. May i ask, how did you get such a faded weathered look on the olive drab and the control surfaces?
mungo1974
I reckon you could flood these forums with the amount of kits you built in early/mid 90's prior to Paragon's launch. Used to love the work you did with those old Monogram kits. Got any pics of those B-24 assmbly ships you did? Only wish you still had pics of my personal fav~ the B-25/P-61 Dio. Clarkie
My god I'm awestruck I'm a fighter guy but have always had a soft spot for the B17 has to be the old Airfix Bit O lace box art from when I was a kid. Superb no, stunning.
Jens
That is one beautiful model Neil! You have done a great job copying all the wear and tear of the real thing. Those pictures make me want to start building my newly won 1/48 B-17F... Regards,

Neil
May i ask, how did you get such a faded weathered look on the olive drab and the control surfaces? I think the overall Olive Drab was Xtracolour Faded Olive Drab, with random areas sprayed with a lighter mix, the darker patches may of been Pastel Chalks, not sure. Control surfaces were a much lighter mix of the Faded Olive Drab (plenty of White added) if I remember corectly. Long time ago now! I reckon you could flood these forums with the amount of kits you built in early/mid 90's prior to Paragon's launch.Used to love the work you did with those old Monogram kits. Got any pics of those B-24 assmbly ships you did? Only wish you still had pics of my personal fav~ the B-25/P-61 Dio. Ah, the early 90's, the stress-free 'good old days'! . Those old Monogram kits were good fun to build. Found a couple of pics of the 1/48 B-24 Assembly ships; I wish I had some pics of the B-25/P-61 diorama, probably the best dio I ever built. I may have the negatives somewhere, not sure .... they will take some finding if I have still got them. St. Faiths Assembly Ship (Norwich) And Wendling (near Dereham, close to Norwich) It' OK i suppose........... I actually made that particilar B-17 twice, wish I still had the one in the pics. The one I made for myself is a bit worse for wear now after all this time. In fact I wish I had alot of the stuff I made back then, have not got a clue where some of them have gone.
