eng
Evening all, Just been trying to find a release date for the re-issue of the Airfix Bucc in 72nd scale. Airfix website doesn't seen to have it listed in the "New for 2009" section but it's in there product list at £7.99 and marked "out of stock". Hannants have 2 listings under future releases - S.2B (A03072) with no price, S.2B/C/D/S mk.50 (A04049) at £10.99. Does anyone know when this will be on the shelves again? AnonymousA667
It's not listed 'new for 2009' because it was 'new for 2008', you guess is as good as anybody as to when it becomes available!. It appears in the 2009 catalogue as A03072 and is Series 3, so RRP should be 7.99. peebeep
The wooksta V2.0
How long is a piece of string? We're given dates which come and go, with nothing on the shelves (I'm thinking Spitfires here, if anyone from Airfix is reading this). Just sit back, put the pennies in the bank and accrue some interest on the money. If the glacial release program goes any slower, it'll be going backwards. Bitter? Very! Christ, you'd think that they'd have learned their lesson by now. There's a buying public, eager to be parted from their cash in the midst of a recession and Airfix are sitting on their hands. Anyone would think they don't want to release any new product at all. Edited July 17, 2009 by The wooksta V2.
Heraldcoupe
The move to slow steaming by many (most?) shipping lines won't be helping Airfix's release schedule. Cheers, Bill. Edited July 17, 2009 by Heraldcoupe
The wooksta V2.0
Either that or One Eyed Abdul and his band of Somali cut-throats are gleefully building Airfix Buccaneers and Canberras in their leisure time. Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Does anyone know why there are two Buccaneers now listed, one series 3, one series 4? Probably wishful thinking, I know, but could it be that the re-issue of the old (series 3) kit has been cancelled in favour of an all-new tool (series 4) kit? AnonymousA667
Very doubtful Obi-Jiff, the plan was always for a re-box of the existing tooling. The catalogue for this year clearly states that it is Series 3, my view is that Hannant's have a grockle on the website. peebeep

John
The highest Series 4 code I can find in the current catalogue is 04048, which is the retooled Sea King. John
Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Of course, the series 4 Buccaneer, if it exists, could be a surprise non-catalogue release. Hornby do it sometimes with their model railway stuff.
kspriss
...a repop of the old NA39 maybe?..with working features? more wishful thinking i feel there steve
The wooksta V2.0
According to Trevor, the NA39 tool was cut to bits when they redid it as the S2. It's a very basic kit anyway.
thx6667
The Bucc reissue looks like it has been bumped up to series 4 on account of the new parts being added (Sidewinders, Pave Spike, AN/ALQ-101, Paveway III, wing tip ECMs, SAAF tanks, rocket pods) and the new, large Cartograf-printed decal sheet that has options for "Lynn/Jaws", SAAF Mk.50, 809 NAS S.2D and the final two-tone grey RAF scheme. Robert
... and the new, large Cartograf-printed decal sheet ...... Jonathan, can we look forward to Cartograf decals for all of Airfix future releases ? Oh, and any idea when the Bucc is coming ? Let's hope the new parts show a bit of finesse and aren't in the clunky Stone-age style (cf 1/48 Seafire, Jaguar GR.3). The new wings for the Spitfire Vc were, to quote someone slightly more famous, "a monstrous carbuncle on the face of a well-loved friend". thx6667
That makes a lot of sense. The new sheet just fit the box, 260 x 125mm.
Oldynewby
On a similar topic, my LMS has been quoted an in-stock date of 3rd August for the new-tool Red Arrows Hawk. On the subject of new tools, I was wondering if the new SHAR FRS1 is a genuine new tool or perhaps the old Italeri tool which is just "new" to Airfix...? Obi-Jiff Kenobi
Hannants have the new 1/72 Hawks (both types) in stock now according to the latest newsletter. The new Sea Harriers (both FRS.1 and FA.2) are all-new Airfix toolings, and look to be an improvement on the Italeri (ESCI) kit. HTH I see I wasn't quick enough. Must sharpen my Jedi mind powers... Oldynewby
There were bucketloads of them for sale at RIAT today. That's probably why there aren't yet any in the local shops. If Airfix have a particularly good run on them at RIAT they might have to wait for more stock before all the orders can be shipped.
