Colin @ Freightdog Models
Hi guys, anyone know whats happened to Classic Airframes, their webisite is closed? Colin
Harvs73
I beleive due to the Global Financial problems business has slowed down to the point where he is taking time off. It has been posted on Hyperscale that there will be no new kits for the near future until the world gets back into order. He has no doubt sold all the remaining stock he had during the sale he had a few weeks ago so the site has limited use at the moment.
Vlamgat9
I will be gutted if they disappear without the Gannet AEW being released - I had understood it was pretty much ready to go
Colin @ Freightdog Models
I hope its just temporary, although if it was me I'd put a statement on my website to that effect. Colin
Graham T
I too would be very upset at their demise - they tackled subjects that oters wouldn't touch & for me their Venom/Vampire/Meteor lines were gold dust. If they ARE going under, perhaps their recent cooperation with Special Hobby might see some of their products re-emerging under that label? Let's hope so. Ali62
As far as I know and heard they are not producing any new kits for now. As far as the Gannet is concerned I know that the basics had not even been completed, and possibly not even started, so I do not think that we will see a 1/48 scale AEW 3 from Classic for a long time if ever, and that will also apply to other more recent and current announcements from them for future release. keith in the uk
I was hoping Classic Airframe would get round to doing a Beaufort which they listed a few years ago , looks like my hopes have been dashed still not to worry i got the Sanger kit :shithappens:

(or did I imagine the last bit??!!)Keef Hannants are listing the Special Hobby Beaufort as a future release but I don't know if that is now compromised by any link Special Hobby has/ may have had with or whatever with Classic Airframes. A real pity as I took my hat off to them for their choices of subject and have several unmade models in the stash. Hope its just a temporary shut down. mick b
I don't know if that is now compromised by any link Special Hobby has/ may have had with or whatever with Classic Airframes. John Hopefully this wont be the case as SH have produced some cracking unusual British subjects in 48th, Albacore, Fulmar, Skua, etc, without CA influence as far as I am aware. AnonymousER99
According to what Jules himself said on Hyperscale a month or two back, Classic Airframes is not going out of business. He is merely taking a break from kit production until the economic times make it more favorable for him to keep going. When will that be?? Nobody knows. If he does not return however, he sure gave us some cool stuff to put glue and paint on and I applaud him for taking a stab at subjects Tamiya, Hasegawa et all never would. CPNGROATS
I hope to see the return of Classic Airframes as well. I do have a few of these kits in the stash waiting to be built. Being OOP now kind of adds to the sentiment, "get it while the getting is good..!" Cheers, ggc

Paul Bradley
Heads-up for those in the States - Squadron has a bunch of CA kits on sale at the moment, many of them at half-price. Just ordered a Venom and Fokker D.XXI for $50.
Karl
I to hope that CA make a return. As previously mentioned they do make some kits (in 1/48) that no other manufacturers would, in all likelihood, ever touch - Boulton Paul Defiant Supermarine Attacker Bristol blenheim MkIV ..to name but a very few (that I've got in the stash) Karl Edited July 18, 2009 by Karl
marty_hopkirk
I took a trip to Halifax Modellers World and picked-up a few Classic Airframes kits I had been planning on dipping for, before they start to dissapear. I suspect the future has been signaled with the reboxing of the CA Grumman Gosling by AZ. I suspect CA will license runs of some of their range to third party manufacturers . Marty... There was a message on Hyperscale about CA,, apparently Jules is re-commencing production soon....it seems all of the existing kits have been sold and new kits are in the offing............ Jon Kunac-Tabinor
Well hopefully when CA start doing kits again, they can mold some which fit where they they need to fit, have decals that are accurate, and be assessed by 'other' websites that aren't in thrall to them. Dont me wroing - I love their release items. I'm just a tad fed up with glowing reviews of models that plainly dont fit. And I speak as a a modeller who has built several CA models plus some Fonderie Miniature ones too Perhaps I'm being too harsh, but CA are/were not the drop fit models that some reviews had you believe. Kudos to Jules Bringuier for the concept, badness to the reviewers who let the subject outweigh the execution. Jonners,
