Pielstick
I'm wondering what paints people are using for "High Speed Silver" (ie the silver colour used on RAF jets in the 50's). From my understanding this was a lacquer based silver paint. I'm planning to get my Hunter F6 finished when I get home, and the underside is supposedly this colour silver. Thanks. Andrew Jones
I quite like Halfords aluminium wiith an overspray of Gamesworkshop "purity seal" satin varnish, gives a very nice finish.
AnonymousDFB1
Citadel Mithryl Silver looks about right as well.
Julien
Or you could use xtracolor High Speed Aluminium? You did not say if you want enamals or acrylics? Julien
Troffa
For High speed silver I like the Xtracolor "Weiss Aluminium", its a German spec paint (RAL 9006 I think) Hannants will have it I believe. Cant help you with an acrylic though. Edited July 16, 2009 by Troffa
Edgar
According to Bill Matthews, he was told by a sprayer that High-Speed Silver was exactly the same mix as the pre-war silver used on fabric surfaces (presumably with a primer to help it stick better.) alex
Is Tamiya's "Flat Aluminium" good as well? Alex
Paul A H
I also like the Xtracolour high speed silver - it sprays beautifully and has a nice, fine finish. You could do worse that plain old Humbrol 11 too. I've seen some great results from the Citadel acrylics but I couldn't get the hang of spraying those with my Badger airbrush. I agree that purity seal is a fantastic varnish though - lovely smooth finish straight from the aerosol and very durable.
phat trev
Humbrol 11 can give a very good finish, I have a tinlet that must be from the 1970's and after a lot of mixing it is still goin strong.
The wooksta V2.0
Halfords Gloss Aluminium is perfect for RAF stuff in 72nd. I know a lot of people go for Nissan Silver but I find it too grainy for 72nd.
