speedy
Just finsihed my phantom and i'm moving onto the next kit. I've got an idea of doing my SHAR being sprayed, ie in its primer with a gadgie spraying it. Anybody got any photos they could post to give me an idea...... TonyT
Just finsihed my phantom and i'm moving onto the next kit. I've got an idea of doing my SHAR being sprayed, ie in its primer with a gadgie spraying it. Anybody got any photos they could post to give me an idea...... http://www.aviationnews.eu/?p=5592 http://www.flymoore.co.uk/ http://www.aviation-news.co.uk/paintingPerfection.html You will need to mask off everything such as the canopies and any openings with brown paper and masking tape or platic sheet which is often a limy green colour and transparent... often you do the fuselage first with the wings covered then cover the fuse and do the wings, most control surfaces will be removed as they usually require balancing post paint, they are hung up on frames to be done, but can come back finished and are fitted before the rest is done....... remember its plastic so any rubbed down areas will not normally be metal, and taking down carbon fibre you have to be careful not to damage its surface. There are generally 3 colours used primer wise, grey, yellow zinc crhomate and green zinc chromate.. Or you could do one where it is getting a temporary scheme added over the top such as the artic jags, where one colour was oversprayed white. thx6667
There's photos kicking around of some SHAR FRS.1s in overall ZCP with some grey primed bits, XZ450 being one such.
Geoff_B
Well if doing a Shar, wouldn't haveing one done in Invincibles paint shop on the way south in 1982 be ideal. Only shot i have seen was the Hermes crew hand painting out the white on the roundels on the deck however. G

G Don't think the Invincible had a spray shop, with the amount of aircraft on there, there would be no room. Certainly they haven't had anything like that for the last 20 years. The only option would be to hand paint, brushes, lots of tins of paint, lots of manpower and the need for the skipper to smell fresh paint 24/7 its the only way to do it!
