Air Rhodesia VP-YNC

Recommended Posts

Okay. Go easy on me as this is my first post on BM (ever !) and I don't want it to be the last !

Finished building this in time to commemorate the first one being shot down in September 1978. (Very sad indeed.)

Model was carved up and modified to represent a Series 700 Viscount. Decals were home-made.

Other models in the pipeline......

Very nice indeed :D I have allways thought that the Air Rhodesia livery was one of the cleaner and fresher ones out there. I rember the two Viscounts being shot down vividly - it shook us all rigid. Dean da Costas comments during the memorial service in Salisbury Cathedral said it all .....

A great job, what a good first submission, very clean and sharp. I am keen to see what will flow from your pipeline in future. What process, software, paper and printer, do you use?

Nice Viscount :speak_cool:

Am I right in assuming that it is the Welsh Models vac-form kit?

Chris.

Hi Chris. It's actually the S&M Models Viscount - limited run injection moulded kit. I did have a go at the Welsh Models vac-form but I failed dismally.

Certainly WON'T be the last one you post here if they're all as neat as this, what a beauty!

Superb build, very nice indeed :goodjob:

I have seen mixed reviews of this kit, and that's why I have gone with the Welsh Models kit. However, you have made such a nice job of this one that I may just revise my plans for a Viscount and have a go at the S&M kit.

Cheers

Chris.

That's a beautiful little Viscount, you needn't have worried about posting that!

And if you fancy bringing it along to an IPMS West Glamorgan meeting, we'd love to see it 'in the plastic'!

Lovely build!

Nothing wrong at all with the S&M Viscount kit at all, as proved with the very nice build above. However, the best by some margin is Authentic Airliners kit:

http://www.authentic-airliners.de/viscount700.html

It has a price tag to suit but just 'oozes' quality and exquisite detail as well as giving options for the radar and non-radar nose variants. Authentic do very neat range in decals as well.

I've just ordered the Viscount and awaiting delivery from Hannants.

Seeing your completed model makes me anxious to get started, not that I would get as good a finish as your's, it looks superb

Cheers

Hi Marty.

I'm not knocking the build quality here, I'm just not convinced about the kit.

As I said in my second post, I may well have a go at one of these.

I have to agree with you about Kurt's Viscount though. He let me have a look at some of the patterns for the Viscount at Telford a couple of years ago and they were super. It's an absolute gem but too expensive for me I'm afraid.

All the best.

Chris.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words and warm welcome. I have a couple of other things up the sleeve but no camera at present (spent all my money on models, tools, and paints - damn you Mr Charles - I can't keep up !) I'll try and get something posted by the end of the weekend.
