AnonymousFO98
Hi Santiago this is just an amazing project with some cracking variations. The Depth Charges is a new one on me as is the clipped wings another question if you don't mind Which prop was used on the MkXII please? Also will be in touch re the Hurricat many thanks ps have you seen the Dodo Hurricane!? Edited November 23, 2009 by walrus
diamant
Many thanks guys. this is just an amazing project with some cracking variations. We have tried to include a couple of non common Hurricanes. Many modellers / hystorian have been helping on this project. I promise you that there are a few more un common Hurricane to come. My father has made only half of the project. He made the prop used on the Mk XII in scratch. He used the "center" of the prop from the P66 vanguard (Sword kit) and then he cloned and modified it in order to obtained a master piece. Then he clone "the center" for each RCAF Hurricane of our project. He also clones and modifies one by one of the blades. Also will be in touch re the Hurricat Ok. We made one many years ago. I made the catapult and my father the Hurricat but we are going to rebuild the aircraft since it was painted with wrong colours (DE/DG instead EDSG and DSG). We are also thinking about making another Hurricat. We will see. ps have you seen the Dodo Hurricane!? Yes, I have a one page article wrote by Peter Green (Hurricane Salute) about this issue. Unfortunately I have a couple of doubts: 1) White/Black strippes ? 2) Color of the rigid triangular streamer which was fitted to the radio mast. 3) Color of the fuselage letters (DODO) Red with white? 4) Color of the serial (red)? 5) What is the drawing just below the cockpit (white square)? rio
Hi diamant, have an old article in aeroplane with several photos of DODO. In answer to a couple of your questions the colour is given as red and white stripes and the drawind just below the cockpit is actually the lever for the eternal brake cut off for the instructor. diamant
Hi Rio have an old article in aeroplane with several photos of DODO. I wonder if you could share that article with us. In answer to a couple of your questions the colour is given as red and white stripes Yes. In same places state that it was finished in those colors (red and white) but in others places mentions black and white. the drawind just below the cockpit is actually the lever for the eternal brake cut off for the instructor You are right. diamant
Hi Rio File received with thanks. :-) My father has finished another model. In this case the Hurricane Mk IIA Z2415 – Boscombe Down – February 1942. It was the first installation of rocket projectiles for flight trials by a Hurricane. The rather crude arrangement involved only six rockets rails. Cheers Santiago
~Dan~
It looks superb... as always. (I am beginning to get mental images of your father working away in a corner by candle light, looking very much like Geppetto. And you cracking the whip, shouting, "Get back in the corner and finish my Hurricanes... you can have a break on Tuesday".)

diamant
Hello to all Many thanks Dan. I am beginning to get mental images of your father working away in a corner by candle light, looking very much like Geppetto. And you cracking the whip, shouting, "Get back in the corner and finish my Hurricanes... you can have a break on Tuesday".) Actually his model room is pretty small but very iluminated. :-) He really enjoy building models like me. The problem is that right now I don't have free time like him but on the other hand I have made all the reaserch which have taken a lot of time by the way. Any chance you can post some closeup pics of the Hurricat on the catapult? Yes, but please keep in mind that the Hurricat will be rebuilt. It was made many years ago without having the correct info. We will rebuild it in the near future. Here is a brief update showing the progress on the latest Hurricanes of the year. My father has built 58 Hurricane out of the 105 selected. This batch includes: Hurricane Mk IIC AK/U BE643 – 213 Sqn - Egipto, Idku – April 1942 – (Flew by the Anglo Argentine pilot F/L Dudley Honor DFC). Hurricane Mk IIC Y HL850 – 417 RCAF Sqn - Egipto Idku - Nov 1942 - (Flew by the Anglo Argentine pilot Oficial Bernardo De Larminat). Hurricane Mk IIC A LD116 - 351 (Yug) Sqn RAF – Libya - Summer 1944 Hurricane Mk IIC X KW935 – 11 Sqn – Cholavram Cheers Santiago
diamant
Hi to all The new batch of Hurricane is done. These are the lastest models done during this year. My parent and my family will take vacation during January and therefore the Hurricane production line will restart its normal operation in February. 55) Hurricane Mk IIC AK/U BE643 – 213 Sqn - Egypt, Idku – April 1942 – (Flew by the Anglo Argentine pilot F/L Dudley Honor DFC). Reference: Claudio Meunier and his book Wings of thunder. 56) Hurricane Mk IIC Y HL850 – 417 RCAF Sqn - Egypt Idku - Nov 1942 - (Volado por el piloto Argentino Oficial Bernardo De Larminat). Two cannons were removed in order to increase the performance with the objective to shot down a Ju88 which flew every day at Alexandria taking photos of the arriving supplies. Reference: Claudio Meunier and his book Wings of thunder. 57) Hurricane Mk IIC A LD116 - 351 (Yug) Sqn RAF – Libya - Verano 1944 Thanks to Dragan (lift here decals) for the photos and information. 58) Hurricane Mk IIC X KW935 – 11 Sqn – Cholavram As per the photo of this aircraft, we believe that the original roundels on the upper side of the wing (type were not covered nor painted when the 16” SEAC roundels were applied. The tone of the blue (of the Type B roundel) appears just a bit darker than the inside roundel of the SEAC marking (4 part of white and 1 part of white). My father tried to represent a very fade and weathered blue-grey. Apparently did not happen the same with the original fuselage roundel which was repainted completely. (Of course we should have done the same with the painting but we make our models without weathering). Thanks to Nick Dixon for the photo. Test Graham
If I may suggest a few other less "ordinary" Hurricanes. 607 Sq Mk.IIB - first Hurribomber unit (I can provide codes and serials) 880 Sq SH Mk.I/II hybrid BD771/7.Z from Pedestal (ex-RAF Mk.IIb, engine failed on Java ferry and converted to Merlin III Sea Hurricane.) 174 Sq night intruder in DG/MSG (probably!) Do you have the green/green SAAF OTU Hurricane? Or others? If you are interested get in touch again - it'll give me time to dig out some scans. diamant
Many many thanks walrus for your kindly comments and wishes. but make sure he gets back into more of these super Hurris ASAP I promise it. :-) Of course Graham. It is an honor and a pleasure that you are interest in our project. 607 Sq Mk.IIB - first Hurribomber unit (I can provide codes and serials)880 Sq SH Mk.I/II hybrid BD771/7.Z from Pedestal (ex-RAF Mk.IIb, engine failed on Java ferry and converted to Merlin III Sea Hurricane.) 174 Sq night intruder in DG/MSG (probably!) These three options sounds very interesting and we are eager to receive the information about them. We can include them in our list. Do you have the green/green SAAF OTU Hurricane? Or others? Yes, we did it (end of the page 5 of this post http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...1047&st=80) Unfortunately the decals were which we used were not so good. :-( If you are interested get in touch again - it'll give me time to dig out some scans. ~Dan~
As impressive as the models are, I'm equally impressed with all the work you have put in to the research. If I may make a suggestion... you should get your own website for this project (I recommend MrSite), give each plane it's own page with a description and history of each aircraft. Plus some pages on the actual builds. I know I'd read every page avidly, and refer to it for my own builds (I want to do some of these aircraft.) You'd get LOADs of visitors and with some google ads, you could even make some money back on this project.
diamant
Dear Graham Many thanks for the input. I will read and see all the info and revert to you. :-) (We need to increase our stash :-) As impressive as the models are, I'm equally impressed with all the work you have put in to the research. Thanks. Not all the modelers notice this point. I have been looking, reading and asking for info sinces July 2008 for this series. Many person have been helping us on this project. I have a list of them (more than 30) which I will post once the serie be finished among the final photos. In order to give you an idea about how we work, I have already start to read for our next series (P38, P47 and P43 (only one)). If I may make a suggestion... you should get your own website for this project (I recommend MrSite), give each plane it's own page with a description and history of each aircraft. Plus some pages on the actual builds. I know I'd read every page avidly, and refer to it for my own builds (I want to do some of these aircraft.) Thanks for the suggestion. I was thinking about something similar including not only the Hurricane but also the others series which we already done (we have 460 models done) but to be honest I don't have the time right now. I can just read and do the reasearch. Now with two little daugthers I cannot even build a model as I did in the past. Let me know if I can help you in any way. Kind regards Santiago

Websites are my thing. So if you'd like help, I'd be happy to help you out. I'm not exactly new to modelling or research, but I'm new to aircraft and aircraft modelling. So I don't have a 'stash' or loads of books. It means that you can't get very far without expenditure, which I can't justify at this time of year. So I'd welcome the opportunity if a website is something you are interested in. I'm going to wait and evaluate the new Airfix Hurricane before doing anything - but I do have a Hurricane folder ready! I'm also interested in the P-38, but as I'll be limiting my P-38s to operation Torch I've found very little so far. So I await your findings with interest.
