Antoine
This question was intended for Merv by PM, but as his box is full, let's have a try here! I'd get this airfix box lattely on ebay, very cheap (16€ P&P included), but .... I don't know much about this kit. I've just heard that their F3 was not that good, but what about this GR1? Any comments/advices/warnings??? Thanks a lot for your help. Cheers! Antoine
atdb27
Well Antoine, this will probably open up the proverbial can of worms. Myself you need, Paragon: Seats, Wheels, Flaps/Slats, Engine exhausts, Fin correction item. Aeroclub: U/C set. Depanding which GR1 you have it will have a 'set' weapons load with it. NOT the greatest of kits and some inc myself tend to use the Italeri IDS kit as a base. Take a look at the recent Tonka GB for just how good you can get 1:48 Tonka to look with much TLC. spike7451
OOpSS SoRrY...... 1-Cockpit-basic in ways that basic cant describe! 2-Canopy too short by about 2 scale foot, hence windshield too long.If it was real the pilot would loose his legs at the knees on ejection! 3-Weapon pylons wrong however the belly (shoulder pylons) have the fairings moulded on tho the wrong shape) 4-No wheel wells whatsoever! 5-Speed brakes too long. 6-BOZ & Skyshadow too short 7-Ejection seats look like a Stenna Stairlift with headrest. 8-Intakes look too wide. Hope that eases things..... Merv

Bobski
Thanks Merv and Adrian. So the news are not that good... On the plus side, it has a shedload of UK weapons that you can hang under other things, plus with a bit of work you can make a pretty good (if not 100% accurate) model out of it. spike7451
This is my effort combining the Airfix GR4 with bits from a scrap Italeria GR1 & left over decals. It was made for fun when I was on the modelling rut. (Italria pit, wheel wells,U/C & pods) Merv PS,Orbit ate the pitot tube!
Matt Roberts
In the immortal words of King Arthur...RUN AWAY!!! okay not that bad but still not good. The Airfix kit in the GR-1 boxing is good for Desert Storm/Granby era RAF weaponry to use on an Italeri kit but the rest is rather rough. Sort of reminds me of a 48th Matchbox kit in fit and detail - the F-3 is bizzare with both raised and recessed panel lines. I actually took a pass on that one the last time I saw one Stateside. That being said I have seen great builds of them, MAM had a recent issue with the Airfix guy's (Trevor Snowden I think but I'm probably wrong) builds and they looked good, real good, better than I can do anymore lacking the time and patience to do them right. As of now I am waiting out the Hobbyboss Fins later this year or next that were announced. They'll probably get dinged for some stupid detail errors but as a kit they probably will be light years ahead in simple buildability. And right now that accounts for more than even 100% accuracy with a bear of a build with me. Watch this space for news, there is a slim possibility that we may see something next week at Shizouka show in Japan or probably something will leak out if they are serious about selling kits around the time of the UK Nats this fall.
