Rallychef
After some discussion with dswoofie, we would like to see how much interest there would be for another motorsport GB. The proposal is as follows I would like to propose a motorsport related group build for later in the year. The idea is for a Roger Albert Clark Memorial build, starting on 5th Aug 09 (would have been his 70th birthday) and ending on the 16th Nov 09 (last day of the Roger Albert Clark Memorial Rally). Cars eligible for the rally will be eligible for the build, the 3 classes are • Historic class 1 Cars registered before 31-12-1967 • Historic class 2 Cars registered between 1-1-1968 and 31-12-1974 • Historic class 3 Cars registered between 1-1-1975 and 31-12-1981 This takes us into the iconic years of rallying (I might be giving my age away), allowing cars such as Saab’s, Lancia, Porches, lotus Cortina’s, Mini’s and not to forget the multitude of Ford Escorts........I’m sure there will be many more. For starters I have some assorted rally bits for prizes, Signed posters etc, Steve (SNCHobbies) has offered somthing as well. Any car falling into the above catagories, any scale/any livery Kieth (keefr22) has also kindly volunteered to help me as a mod (although you will have to be gentle with us we have never done this before0 and Steve (SNC) hopes to have a stock of suitable kits nearer the start date What do you think folks! Happy Martian
I'd be in for this one. Got a 1974 Porsche with some Studio27 Rothmans decals somewhere waiting to be built.
keefr22
cool idea should give a host of conversions as well as normal kits ... now where do i get a saab 96 ? World Classics do a 1/32 Saab 96 bodyshell - you'd have to scratchbuild the interior though, unless you bought the full kit that includes the 'half' interior meant for a slotcar. I have a couple of their kits & they are pretty nicely done. http://www.worldclassics.co.uk/id4.html - scroll halfway down the page. And there is a Finnish (I think) guy who's recently been advertising fairly basic looking 1/24 resin kits on ebay UK & one of those is a 96. Bit pricey though, he started at £75.....!!! As long as mods are allowed to enter I'll enter a couple - to be announced. I have plenty to choose from! Keef Edit; Forgot to mention that I'll donate a couple of 1/24 rally car kits as prizes - I have to reduce the stash somehow!! keefr22
not such good news.............http://www.rogeralbertclarkrally.org/index.htmIan D Oh dear, that's a shame....... Let's hope they can come up with a rescue plan. Too far for me to actually go to the event these days (though I used to go up there for the old RAC Rally in the days of my yoof!), but always really enjoyed the event coverage on Motors TV. Rallychef
Oh dear, that's a shame.......Let's hope they can come up with a rescue plan I'm hoping to get some more info today, my brother in law is down to drive closing car for the event, so I will get some gossip off him later, when he comes for Sunday Dinner. I darn't ring him now as we were up to silly o'clock , this morning, marshalling a twelve car regards Ian D
Miggers
Not a car builder myself, but I'll be watching this one with interest. I used to follow the RAC Rally back in the late 70's throught to it's demise from the WRC calender and very, very, very fondly remember all those "proper" rally cars and drivers of the era,Roger Clark, the McRaes,Russell Brookes, the awsome Henri Toivenen et al the Flying Finns. Fantastic stuff and a thrilling time for rally fans. Mark

Ian, only just read the PM as I have been very successful down the shed and we went out last night to see Scooby Doo & the Pirate ghosts on stage as well. This will take me back Stevieboy
Happy Martian
Steve, If you know of a Talbot Sunbeam in 1/24 scale, I'd be interested. I'm looking for one to go alongside a Russell Brookes Opel Manta I'm currently building. Andy

Happy Martian
It's from RallySports Models, which I believe is based off the Narton kit. It ain't perfect but it's the only one currently available and I had a desire for some Andrews Heat for Hire

keefr22
.... and I had a desire for some Andrews Heat for Hire If you don't have them already I think Rallysport still do the old MRM Andrews decals for the Mk2 Escort which will help fuel your needs !! I'd also love a 1/24 Sunbeam, but have never seen a kit anywhere. Nearest I've found is another World Classics bodykit in 1/32 which can be got with Andrews decals. This is another nice little kit, although the front screen pillars don't look quite right on it. I can't remember if I bought the one with Andrews decals or Tovoinens works car (!!) but if I get the chance I think I'll have a go at putting it together for this group build. Primary build though will be Roger's 76 RAC Rally winning Mk2, POO 505R. It really is about time I built this icon of British rallying.....!! Happy Martian
What an absolutely brilliant idea!!! I might be able to do this one. Shame your not allowing GpB... Michelle Mouton drove an Audi Quattro in the 1981 Lombard RAC Rally <cough, cough> And Ian, I've got the Rallysport Models RS200 reviewed on a friends' rally model board . A little rougher than the Reji and Modellers kits but half the price as well so good value for money. Andy
The Sheene Machine
Michelle Mouton drove an Audi Quattro in the 1981 Lombard RAC Rally <cough, cough> Andy Oh yes - forgot that one, and I happen to have the kit!! Decals are no good though. Didn't S27 do some a while back?? Otherwise that leaves....the Stratos and MkII Escort in Vatanen or Mikkola colours... GpB would have been good - I have an ex-Pat Watson Diabolique RS200 that needs finishing. Edited April 27, 2009 by The Sheene Machine
Rallychef
Nice to see so much interest, plenty of time yet if anybody else wants a go. On the prizes front we have another two kind offers, firstly a friend of mine on the organising comittee of the Pirelli Rally has donated a Parker Pen which was a 'finishers award' from the Pirelli Historic rally Secondly we have an extreamly generous offer from Shiloh I'm willing to put up a couple of prizes for the RAC build. I have a couple of bits that I'll part with and I'd like to throw £30 to Steve for a prize also if we can get this agreed between us. I've a couple of nice rally prints and a DVD by Waylander of the 2008 RAC rally that can be put up. If you need anything give else give me a shout. many, many thanks to Sean for that (sorry to take so long to post it on the forum, Sean) Many thanks for everyones interest Regards Ian D Edited April 28, 2009 by Rallychef
