Richard M
I have the following on the go at the moment, all in various stages of completion. No matter how hard I try to stagger starting models I always seem to end up with everything at the painting stage at the same time. 1/72 Airfix BN Islander, being made as the Red Devils Islander G-AXDH for an ex Red Fred. 1/72 Airfix Avro Anson Mk.I being converted to a postwar G-ALXC Federated Air Transport, the engines and cowls are the white metal ones from the Aeroclub C.19. 1/72 Airfix Typhoon, pure OOB fun. 1/48 Revell Junkers Ju99-C6, first time trying this camo scheme, freehand airbrush. Next time I'll either use a template, or mark the positions of the spots with a B pencil first. 1/76 Airfix Control Tower, dragging on while I paint the figures, which I hate doing! Usually I try to have 3 models on the go at anyone time, hopefully at different stages so I always have something to do. Gone a bit off-track lately! So what's everyone else got on the bench at the moment? Best Rich
Richard M
Bit of progress on some of them. The Airfix Anson conversion has got the first couple of coats of Hu130 on the cabin roof and side (where the cheat line will be). The Airfix Red Devils Islander has the first coats of Hu130 on the tail where the Union flag will go. The Airfix Typhoon has been decaled up, and a few painting bits and pieces done, plus the prop and bombs have been epoxied into place. Decals went on well and all were in register. Also started putting the decals on the Revell Ju88 C6, got about halfway then dropped my needle point forceps which bullseyed my foot. Kind of lost motivation after that Best Rich
dad's lad
Nice looking Tiffie there Rich, looking forward to seeing the Anson finished too when your foot recovers :shithappens: . Clive
Ian
Ahhhhh the Airfix Tiffy - First model I EVER tried on my own. A whole tube of BRITFIX (anybody else remember that stuff ??), and painted with the Glossy Red and White I had left over from the FROG DH88 Comet - my very first model, and built by my Dad..... Great to see it still around. Thanks for posting the pics, Richard. Ian
Richard M
Thanks for the comments. 1959 for the Airfix Typhoon, probably has loads of innacuracies, but to my eyes looks like what I think of as a Typhoon. Nice straightforward fun build. I still find it confusing with the new Tiffie, I immediatley think of this one rather than the smoker when I see "Typhoon" - proves I must be a propellor head!. Richard M
Couple of pics of the progress on the Revell 1/48 Ju88C-6. All the decals are on, excluding the red dash wing markings which are shown in the diagram but relevant numbers not called out. I'm beginning to think I can't be bothered to figure out what is supposed to go where. I'd really like to get this finished and off the bench. I've added the undercarriage, and started painting some of the detail, e.g Hu53 for the machine guns. I'll matt cote then add the aerial and other sticky out bits 'cos I'll only knock them off if I add them now. I painted the exhaust shrouds Hu100, to mimic rust. Seen it done on some other models. I thought it would add a bit of colour, seeing it I think I'll have to tone it down a bit and definitley add some exhaust staining on the wings and nacelles. Best Rich That camo on the '88 looks fer-lippin' awesome - I've never seen a scheme quite like that before! Must have been fairly taxing on your patience?! You're right about the exhausts, by comparison they look a tad garish. You could try overspraying them with a dark red/brown slightly metallic mix, and then add the exhaust stains - that would blend the whole lot in together nicely. But that paint job... Richard M
Made a bit of progress on some of the subjects. The Ju88 got the final no walk decals on the upper wing, unercarriage wheels and doors, bit of painting on the engine and the exhaust shields toned down a bit. The Red Devils Islander got the first coat of Hu19 gloss bright red sprayed on. Going round in cirlces tidying up filler marks on the Anson. Richard M
Been a while since I updated this. The Ju88 has been finished an posted for inspection! The Islander is progressing slowly, I've got the white band done on the tail and have painted the props, spinners and wheels. G-ALXC is mover closer to completion, I finished the white after faffing for a bit. Masked it and the cheat line Sprayed the green, for which I used Hu116. Then masked the cowlings etc to spray the wings with Metalcote Aluminium. Didn't go on as well as I'd hoped, old tin and very granular pigments. Still at least the upper surfaces look OK! Started work on a new Anson for the ATF Trainer Aircraft GB (build here). I'm doing Avro Anson Z*RB 3158 (ex N4927 sent to SA 14/1/1941) of SAAF No.35 Squadron, Congella, South Africa. This is a conversion to a float plane using floats donated from a Frog Blackburn shark. Still early stages. Best Rich
Mike
Heyup Rich - why don't you have a separate thread for each of these puppies? They certainly deserve the attention
Richard M
I'm like a kid at Christmas, just couldn't leave it wrapped up. Definitely going to need a couple of coats of gloss before I do anything else, including the touching up of the paint. Blow me but doesn't the metal coat lift off easy. I ended up with silver coated finger prints and paranoia about touching any of the other surfaces of the model. Next time I'll gloss with the rest of the masking still in place. I'll also do the nacelles last, pain in the neck masking them off, and they'll need quite a bit of touching up. Best Rich
