Touvdal
I am building this in 1/72 from Special Hobby. But what is the color Pink or blue, very little ref. is availeble. Looking at these photoes I would say pink, but maybe somebody has more info here. cheers Jes
Steven Eisenman
That aircraft appears to be a unarmed PR aircraft with deep under-cowl. It would have been painted PRU Blue. Those look like quite faded aircraft. FR aircraft used for low level recce missions at dawn and dusk were in the Pink. Of course, other may know more...... wyverns4
Hi Jes, IIRC (refs being at home) the MK. X were in PRU Blue. Certainly looking at the photo I would be strongly inclined to go with PRU Blue as opposed to the pink shade. As Steve stated only the low-level fighter recce aircraft were painted pink. Colin S-K
Touvdal, Just seen this thread.... and the photos you have posted. It is the Spitfire PR X, only 16 of them built. Not many photos, and many sources quote Grey or PRU Blue..... All quote gloss. Pink is rubbish, only 16 Sqn used Pink aircraft, for low level, dusk/dawn Recce, when sky was pink... Wrong..... It has the same camera fit as the PR XI, but it was pressurised.... Short lived experiment, as it was superseded by the PR XIX. Why build a Merlin PR High Altitude Spitfire, when very soon a Griffon engined Spitfire, went further with better performance..... Colours, look closely at photos, you can see colour difference on engine cowling. Medium Sea Grey above and PRU Blue beneath. Which matches with High Altitude scheme of that time...! Reasons for me saying so.... I know a pilot that flew these aircraft...... Look at photo's.... feel free to email me at, [email protected] Will quite happily send CD of photos... Hope this helps.... Colin S-K
Jes, Nice PRX......... It is a nice mix of colours isn't it? Nice to see models of such an interesting and relatively little known subject. Well done. Colin Edited May 18, 2009 by Colin S-K
