BravoLima
[...]The real vehicle below (Dennis Mercury MD300) has a similar (AN) number plate to the Tugmaster so was probably made around the same time. This particular Tractor had been at RAF St Mawgan for many years pulling Nimrods around, it was still working there in 2004, many years after the Nimrods had left. I enjoyed myself doing some research and preparing a five-views drawing of the Dennis Mercury suggested by Evalman: I'm not a professional illustrator but I hope that anyone interested in this subject can get an inspiration to scratchbuild it. It is a PDF, in 1/72 scale, and you can download it from here: http://www.webalice.it/lbeato/md300_6.pdf Details and dimensions were desumed from sources and images found on the internet. Any suggestion for improvements (or mistakes to correct, as well) is highly appreciated. Hope this helps Luca Edited April 4, 2009 by BravoLima

BravoLima
BW Models have just released the Douglas Sentinel MK1 Aircraft Tug in 1/76 scale. Great news! I swear I didn't know it when I posted my question. Unless it is obtained from the old Capricorn Miniatures, I'd rather see one sample assembled. Any hint ? Phoenix512
Anybody living near Duxford because I'm sure they have/had a live one there. I guess they got from Marham along with loads of other ground equipment when they received the Victor. A kindly soul could nip over and measure/photo for the BM Massif Just a thought......I'll get my coat? cheers Rick When the Victor was delivered back in 1976 there was no ground equipment provided except for a laddere, chocks and a Tow Bar. All the Ground equipment in use on the Mk 1 was the same for the Mk 2 variants. There were two Sentinals at Duxford in the 1980's and into the 1990's one was owned by the IWM and the other by the DAS which was ex RAF Marham, I used the DAS one on many occasions to move a wide variety of Aircraft. Ingo Degenhardt
here you go mate, the RAF are being taken over by corporate branded Schopfs! as an aside, at work today we recieved our new Schopf MATT, the same as the one in my earlier picture, but with Royal Navy corporate markings on the doors. Now this one would make a great model (resin?) - in 1/
Mattie Bee
I was looking on line for some info on AEC Matador Refuelers When I came across this (First 2 images) http://aec.fotopic.net/search.php?txt=matador+tug&t=p Possible mod to the Airfix Matador in the RAF Refueling set? BravoLima
The same nice site about AEC trucks is hosting some good pictures of another ex-RAF Matador tug, prior and following a restoration: http://aec.fotopic.net/p18808241.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p7443381.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p539304.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p539306.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p539310.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p539312.html http://aec.fotopic.net/p539313.html Also here: http://www.aecmilitant.co.uk/matador4/mat4photo36.jpg To model it, rather than the three-axle refueller I'd choose the short-body 4x4 artillery tractor, also from Airfix, or the Matador Models' resin kit. Excellent. Any chance of a 1/48th Ford Tractor as used by the RN in the late 80's early 90's? I only ask as it was on this that I got my aircraft towing licence and was regularly seen towing SHAR's to and from the Compass base from the AMG hanger. Devilfish
We had the top one and the one in the background of pic two at Sentry Line Flight (SLF) Sentry Servicing and Maintenance Flight (SSMF), or whatever they decided to call it each week, for towing around the various pieces of very large ground equipment. Lovely ride in both, as long as you were on a glass smooth road. Anything else and you'd be bounce to death! lol

We do aim to produce all these ove rthe next few years including the Ford Tractor. If there is anything anybody wants not on my list send me a photo and I can add to the list if feasable. BravoLima
When I read posts like the following I feel really pleased: http://www.airfieldinformationexchange.org...ull=1#post22390 Luca (still patiently and politely waiting for an SAS' Agusta A109A conversion announced long before any RAF ground vehicle... ;-) ) Edited December 30, 2010 by BravoLima
SimonR
Interesting thread, a bit OT but I assume Douglas from Bristol, who built some of these vehicles are the same company that licence built Vespa's in the 1960's. Although they only built Vespas for a short period of time, mine still has Vespa-Douglas on the log book today! Cheers Si
