If so - surely cheaper to make your own? Personally - I use tap water (prolly my Scots genes as it's pretty good vfm ) - works for me! No guarantees - and I suggest you test it first - but it's what I've always assumed having bought a 250 ml bottle of thinner and performed a *very* un-scientific 'nose' test... Certainly smells like it (definitely not neat Isoprop tho... - have tried that and it clogs the airbrush) Others will no doubt know more - am more of a Lifecolour/Xtracrylix kinda guy EDIT - may also contain a retarder as well - I really don't know on that one. Iain My 2p: I seem to remember reading somewhere that whilst it is basically IPA, they put some magic ingredients in it to help the paint flow and retain it's finish. I use the IPA (local pharmacist was very helpful when I told him what it was for & ordered me a litre bottle) for cleaning the airbrush and undercoats but the Tamiya stuff where it shows. Cheers, Von Buck I use this from Hiroboy linky I did use the Halfords stuff but after advice from Turnerdad he suggested using a High gloss celulose thinner. I have to agree I feel this thinner gives a smoother finish than the Halfords stuff , which I just use for cleaning now, but saying that I found the Halfords thinner an improvement over Tamiyas own thinner especially normally hard colours to spray such as white, red and yellow. Jazzy Jase Posted March 5, 2009 Share Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) I've just seen a post over on Promodeller that says the Tamiya thinners have been discontinued: mjl1132 - "I emailed The Hobby Company, the Tamiya registered UK importer, and asked them the position with regards to the metallic paints we have not seen in the UK for some time as well as the X-20A thinners. This was the brief reply I got: "Some of the range of TS paints are coming back in about June this year. The thinners have been discontinued."" I find it a little hard to believe that Tamiya would completely discontinue their range of thinners, but it could explain the lack of availiability.
