Phil Reeder Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 (edited) This statement was made by a Royal Navy officer, when he went aboard a Japanese cruiser,at the fleet review ,in 1937.The IJN crusiers, were, indeed formidable fighting ships. They were armed with 10x8" guns, and a host of smaller weapons, but their main weapon was the deadly"Long Lance" torpedo,Takao carried 16 tubes for these ,plus re-loads.The main advantage of the Long Lance, was they left no track in the water, and carried a 1000lb warhead.Fearsome indeed! The Aoshima kit of the Takao was released about two years ago ,I bought this kit from HLJ,at the princely sum of £55,it will probably cost double that now.It is a very well thought out kit,the fit of the parts was very good, and it made up into an impressive model. It contains parts for four different aircraft types.a Jake,Pete,Dave, and Alf floatplanes, but doesn`t include any decals for them.I used some spare Japanese meatballs from the Tamiya Prince of Wales kit.Though-out i used Humbrol Acrylics, both airbrushing and Paintbrush.the numbers I used were No 27,for the vertical surfaces and steel decks, and no 62 for the Lino deck.Total construction time was three weeks ,mainly due to the simple colour scheme. This only the secod IJN ship I`ve done ,but after this pleasent experience, there will be more. Bye Phil Edited March 1, 2009 by Phil Reeder
AndyL Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Very nice work Phil...I do enjoy your builds for they're always quality.
Muller Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Thats lovely! Love the base too. Must try building a floaty thing sometime....
Stebos Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 That is excellent work! IJN ships always have a certain look about them that I really like. I always feel inspired to get more naval kits when I see these built up.
zeke Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Oh that is lovely work Phil...you must be very happy with that one?...
ancient mariner Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 A quality build of a very "handsome" subject.
