So I decided to sort out the cockpit in preparation for joining it to one of the rear fuselage halves. A test fit with one of the seats made me realise that the instrument panel was too far back. So it had to come out and be repositioned.

Panel and console removed

Panel and console refitted

Some dremelling of the interior of the nose to take the cockpit with repositioned panel.

Seats test fit, much more space for the free loaders seats now.

I found the control columns! Also realised the rear seats should not have arm rests, might leave them on anyway.

Pilot seat in correct position now

I finally sorted out some paint for the cockpit, though still not happy with the grey I will have to live with it.

I ended up diving into the spares box to decal the consoles. There are also a couple of circuit breaker panels behind the rear seat. As I did not have anything to resemble them I just used some other panel and console decals.

After adding a few bits and pieces I gave the back end some paint, though the shade is still too dark.

I did some more work on the back end and realised I had made one of the panels in rear right-hand fuselage too big so it had to be cut down. This was done to accommodate the actuator for the ramp. The left-hand side was OK.

I have finally started to add some plumbing after I found some wire that was about the right scale thickness, I tried to place it as close as possible to the actual thing but due to some mismeasured and misplaced bits I had to improvise.

More wires to be added.

I'm catching up with this Ray.

A mammoth project in terms of time, scratch building, improving and actual physical size :o!

Reallly inspiring stuff; I'm looking forward to reading it all and to the next instalment :).

Best regards

I have also been readjusting the shape of the nose, it looked a little blunt to me.

I managed to mate the forward fuselage and right rear fuselage section.

The right sponson has also been fitted and the obligatory filling, shaping and sanding is underway.

Great stuff Ray :thumbsup2:

The contours you have created are really nice between the fore and aft fuselage.

Could I ask; what type of filler do you find is useful for resin kits?

Best regards

Thanks Calum

Well, I thought I had finished up with the flight deck section, it looked a little back out the back, so....

Really impressive stuff Ray.

Is that wonky bottom step an Lockheed design feature?

Keep up the momentum, it's looking great.

Yes, must do something about that Kirk. Then again it probably won't be seen once the fuselage goes together :)

Gordon Bennett...  I hope you have a seriously big display... cabinet hangar!  Great stuff.

Not sure where it is going when done, may have to get approval for the extension pretty soon.

With the PB shemozzle, I have been avoiding updating this thread as there are a fair few images in it.

I managed to do a little more, I decided to light the cockpit and cargo bay and that has been completed.

I added 3 nano-LEDs to the cockpit and cargo bay. Power is from a single 1.5V button battery which will hide on the installed ramp. Not sure where the switch will go, maybe on the ramp as well.

The lighting looks superb Ray, very nicely done and to scale. It also shows just how tidy your interior detailing is.

:goodjob:

So I have finally managed to add the windscreen panels, I cut pieces out of an old cd case and filed them to shape, some were scratched along the way

First one fitted, can you pick them?

36353705236_ca0f8915a2_b.jpg

Last ones gone in, had to rejig the centre pillar

36353704866_22262e321b_b.jpg

Puttied up the gaps, too much putty?

36353704456_17e09f7d44_b.jpg

36398178565_c31334a38c_b.jpg

Putty cleaned up and panels sanded and polished

36353704646_16a50002db_b.jpg

There are still some blemishes I will have to live with. Now I can get on with inserting the cockpit and buttoning up the fuselage after I repair some damage that is.

Very resourceful - I like it!

Any putty over transparent parts - you're a braver man than me!

Looking good!

What tool / product are you using to glue / putty / polish those? You seem to have avoided any 'clouding' or 'fogging' ..?

Superb work Ray :thumbsup2:  They look great; they're quite big in this scale, it looks like some of the cockpit interior will be nicely visible.

What an awesome beast it is !

Best regards
