Rallychef
When I spoke to Steve, to wish him well in his second year of buisiness, i told him I would not be able to join in his birthday group build, firstly because I'm not that quick a builder, and secondly, my new years resolution was just to build out of the stash, and not order anything new this year. So much for that, this is on its way from Steve.......... As it's only a 1/32 i am hopeing i can build within the timescale Not sure how my Japanese is.........!!!!! Should be here midweek.............watch this space Regards Ian D.

Rallychef
I'm a bit of a Subaru fan (although I'm bias as I used to work as a feelance chef for their test team, shame thier not competing this year) built a few scoobies, and the service truck already, still a couple in the stash. This little car has been screaming buy me for weeks now, I thought it would be a bit of a change. Steve has just emailed me this afternoon to say its in the post, sohopefully i will get a start on itin the next couple of days. Stevieboy
Hi Ian, Thanks for letting us know, I did have a look inside before I sent it it's not a bad little kit is it.
Rallychef
Hi Steve, Iv'e made a bit of a start, unfortunatly your friends at the P.O. don't seem to have heeded your warning on the front of the package, the bodyshell seems to have sustained a bit of crush damage. the RH windowscreen pillar was bent, and the side pillar broken. Nothing a bit of TLC can't fix. The windowscreen pillar has had some heat treatment from a hairdryer, splinted with some plastic strip, and clamped. the side pillar has been glued. No major probs, but has set me back a day on an already tight deadline I might get a start on the chassis and interior tonight, a fair bit of flash to clean up, but overall a nice little kit, as an idea of scale, that's a 1;24 truck engine in the background ! more soon, Regards Ian D. Rallychef
done a bit of research tonight except mine is the 'sports' version, no wing mirrors (aerodinamics....!!!) . flaired arches & wide wheels, bit different from the current Subaru WRC Regards Ian D
Stevieboy
If that were to be remade for todays market it would probably outsell the smart car, and I hope this dosn't sound sarky but I think it's quite nice Steve
Rallychef
I had looked at the kit on your site for a while steve, now I'm glad i went for it, its begininig to grow on me. More tomorrow cheers Ian
Stevieboy
Just a quick update on things there is another modeller taking part in this but he is having trouble logging on to BM he is a BM'er D4N we will see if we can post his pics through me he is doing a Suzuki Katana, Me I'm of down the shed to carry on with my Porsche Cayman with Scale Production bits and in case things do happen Ian, I've ordered a few rally kits but I am interested in seeing if it's possible to do something with a mk1 or 2 Escort, I've got a mk 1 resin kit at my parents house which I have had for years can't remember who did it though but I believe they did an Opel Ascona as well Man does that take you back Steve
Rallychef
Hi Steve, I've just got to the bench myself, Talking of going back a bit, the rambling and remaniscing of mk 2's is in danger of hijacking Sean's thread. But it has brought to mind my thoughts on building Bob's Xpack RS. I already have revell mk2 kit in the stash, and Im certain up in the loft is a bodyshell from a long abandoned zakspeed escort from before I gave up model building some 20 years ago, not sure what state its in I do remember throwing some paint at it (badly I would expect) and Ive made some arrangements to take some pics of the 1:1 kit at the weekend AND it helps my new years resolution ........................anyway back to work on the little scoobie More later folks Ian D
Rallychef
got a bit of work done this afternoon, removed flash & (very obvious) mould lines. The holes where the wing mirrors should be have also been filled and sanded, the rear bumper made good with filler where it attached to the sprue (bad join), the wheel arches were given a quick prime last night, (why cast them Black & the body white...........Grrrrrr) attached to the body and some of the imperfections attacked with wet & dry. the crush damage has also been repaired, I will chuck some primer at it now & then I'm off to the loft to look for some old plastic. Regards Ian D Edited February 11, 2009 by Rallychef
The Creative Explorer
What i usually do is prime the body, paint it black and then give the white color layer for layer back. This way, you're sure there is no color difference in the end. And it seems the window-sill had been crushed? I guess after a little bit of sanding, it should be unnoticable. keefr22
That's very cool Ian, I like that!! Looking forward to your progress on this one! As you say, they made a few changes to their cars as the years went on, didn't they....!!! Wouldn't bother to spend too much time looking for the old bodyshell, as the only Zakspeed kit I'm aware of is the Esci variation on the rally kit, which doesn't have x-pack style arches - it has the round saloon car racer type arches. I couldn't believe my luck recently when I found a complete Zakspeed kit on a traders stand at a show for £8 - they've been going for upwards of 40 on e-bay!! If there were any chance, I'd be very grateful to see the pics of your mates car, as I've been gathering references to scratch build a droop snoot x-pack RS2 for a few years now, & they aren't exactly thick on the ground. I test drove a red road rally prepared one a ''few'' years back, but couldn't afford it at the time - I was about £200 short!! As to the resin ''mk1 Escort'' I think that's probably the horrendous Narton kit that's now being sold again by rallysport models on e-bay. It's an awful waste of resin, as while it probably looks like something, that something isn't a Mk.1 Escort!! (Narton also did a Manta 400 that was a bit better) Sorry for wandering off into Escort land again, but they are my all time favourite cars!! Good luck with the Scoob Keef Edit: I've just remembered that Reji have produced an X-pack flat front Escort transkit, & as they did the same thing by copying the Esci round arch Zakspeed kit, maybe there was an X-pack esci?? I'd be very interested to hear if you did find one in the loft!! Edited February 11, 2009 by keefr22
Stevieboy
Keefr, Your right it was Narton and although I havn't looked at it in a long while I seem to remember the top of the windscreen was more like a circle, but that apart I tried today to get some more of them Scoobies but the supplier has sold out it is interesting though. Best wishes Steve
Rallychef
not much done , had a bad weekend, got some primer on bodyshell & interior panels, and some filler & sanding on the bodyshell (what's that in the background of the middle Pic) Keef, Bobs car is stripped down at present, lots of bodyshell welding going on (Flinstone Floor Syndrome), he is however going to email me some pics from the original rebuild later this week. that escort bodyshell in the loft was an esci zakspeed Saloon car, we may use it as the doner shell for some scratchbuilding more later today with any luck Edited February 18, 2009 by Rallychef

I was really hoping you would be able to prove me wrong & find an Esci x-pack arch shell!! As to the Scooby - she's looking tidy! We seem to be at about the same stage of build, I managed to get the shell into primer yesterday, & also put a quick spurt of Halfords matt black over the chassis & interior components. It was only when I got them out of the garage this morning I realised I'd 'lost' a whole sprue of chassis bits! Found it lurking under my desk, so have just given that a quick spray of black too! Are you building the Scoob as she comes in the box, or changing the colour to do a 'generic' race car? Keef, Bobs car is stripped down at present, lots of bodyshell welding going on (Flinstone Floor Syndrome), he is however going to email me some pics from the original rebuild later this week. No worries, I'll be more than happy to see any pics whenever you have the chance! more later today with any luck Looking forward to it!! I was really hoping you would be able to prove me wrong & find an Esci x-pack arch shell!! Are you building the Scoob as she comes in the box, or changing the colour to do a 'generic' race car? Yup, it is the round arch. I hope to try and use it as a doner shell and scratch build the x pack. I dont think the arches will be a problem, the RS2000 front end may strech my limited skills The scoobie will be much so out of the box, bodywork will be a polar white, with some red accents (the square behind the racing numbers & the Wheels) along with a japanese rising sun logo on the roof. I have seen a pic on the net with the car fully covered in the rising sun logo on all panels, but I felt it looked too over the top (and too much masking)........we will see how time goes regards Ian D
Rallychef
Been away for a few days as it was my 21st weding anniversery (don't remember breaking 3 mirrors!!!!!!!) , got a bit done today when I got back. some of the interior has been biult, and bodywork painted, still need some of the blackwindow frames finished. while the paintwork was drying, I built up a display base for the finished model more tomorrow hopefully regards Ian D
keefr22
Looking good Ian! Bit of a difference between that interior & a S12 WRC Scoob eh.....??!! Nice looking base too - probably take me as long to make something like that as it would the model to put on it!! Keef
Stevieboy
That is looking good I must get hold of some more although I am currently having to revert to Halfords and some old Tamiya spray cans I have as I had an argument with my Aztec yesterday -after 4 weeks of problems I got it going after spending hours working on it when after I managed to get as far as giving my model a coat of paint it decided to pack up again I chucked it and broke it but boy did I feel good ?? Rallychef
Best days progress since I started the little scoobie. As the box pic was different from the decals supplied and in black and white, also the lack of reference material on the net means the final colour scheme has a little modellers license!!!, the finished scheme is a combination of box art and a picture from google. The decals are a combination of kit and home made ( I did the red door/bonnet plates and the rising sun roof decal and the Subaru decal on display base) . Bodywork now just needs number plates, glazing and lighting, a quick clean up and coat of Kleer, everything assembled and I think we are getting close. more tomorrow hopefully regards Ian D Looking at the pic in the post shows I nedto also sort ot the panel lines.
