gcn Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) The earlier photo with the wading gear shows it in overall Olive Drab with the code "H 2" on the turret, the later photo, dated the 16th of August 1944, shows the vehicle with camo striping, I personally think the "stripes" are black (faded and dirty) the code had gone from the turret by this time. The tracks in the later shot seem to be T48 Rubber chevron with the chevron almost completely worn away. The wading gear had gone by that time.Phil thanks for that info, in that case I guess camo is ok for this GB ? Edited February 10, 2009 by gcn
Red Dragon Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I think the mods said the cut off was the 20th of August so no problems I would think. Since the camo was applied at some date between the 7th of June and the 16th of August I would think that "Hurricane" would be a prime candidate for the group build. Cheers Phil thanks for that info, in that case I guess camo is ok for this GB ?

AnonymousFO98 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Apologies if this is in the wrong thread chaps - please move as required Have the Academy 1/72 P-51 "Old Crow" but unsure if it would qualify The aircraft wore the invasion stripes but can't find if it would have taken part in Overlord am thinking not but someone may know. sorry this is such a humble offering but i haven't much suitable in the stash and if honest shouldn't be here at all- More GB overload than Overlord GB
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) I'm afraid I can't give you a definitive answer, but if she wore strips she should qualifies, the only think I can thin off is as a preserved warbird did she wear the stripes for real? Anyone got an info? Right done some investigation and although I can find no definitive fact to say Old Crow flew in the campaing. Bud was in country at the right time and so was Old Crow and I'm sure some of his kills must have been over Normandy so unless someone can tell me she wasn't in the campaign. I say build her. mikeew Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 After some info from Daz (thanks mate) I will hopefully be in with a 1/35 Jagdpanzer Hetzer. Never build much armour so seems as good an excuse as ever! I might even get a base made for it...wonders never cease! Hope this is all OK with the mods?
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Mike the Hetzer fits in the timescale as I told you it entered service in July '44. And a base too? You take it steady

Sounds good for me and if Daz says they was in Normandy that's good enough for me.
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Well not in Normandy, but the battles afterwards as they entered service in July '44.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Well not in Normandy, but the battles afterwards as they entered service in July '44. What battles Daz any that we would included in 'the Battle for Normandy"
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I'll do some research, but the Battles inland after the landings almost certainly.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Any of these and it's in for sure Battle for St Lo, Operation Goodwood, Operation Cobra, Operation Luttich, Operations Totalise & Tractable, "The Falaise Pocket"
Red Dragon Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Hello, Is the kit a B/C or D? daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Right according to Messrs Doyle and Jentz in the German AFV of WW2 Encyclopedia, the Hetzer entered service in July 1944 on the Western Front, but according to Osprey the Hetzer did not see service on the Western Front until September '44 in the Arnhem sector. I'll do more digging.
Tedfellows Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I might do Wittman's Tiger at Villers Bocage, if thats allowed?
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Hi Wittmann's Tiger fits into the timeframe so thats allowed.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I might do Wittman's Tiger at Villers Bocage, if thats allowed? Defiantly but I won't adjudicate on which tank he was driving on the day he was ambushed
AndyL Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Defiantly but I won't adjudicate on which tank he was driving on the day he was ambushed Could be worse...you could be trying to work out who knocked his Tiger out Ref Hetzers - Their first deployment was on the Eastern Front, the first operational Western ones at Arnhem...apparently. Edited February 11, 2009 by AndyL Adding Information
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Could be worse...you could be trying to work out who knocked his Tiger out Don't even suggest it Andy
Red Dragon Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Thought that one had been laid to rest a long time ago, a bit like Wittmann himself really! Cheers Phil Could be worse...you could be trying to work out who knocked his Tiger out
