Watch out for the tasca suspension, it's a a pain in the bottom! I would go as far as to suggest robbing the suspension from another kit if you have one available or investing in the Resicast replacement set. There again, you might get on with the Tasca sussy, I did'nt.

I'd certainly like to do something for this.

Would it be pushing the envelope a little too far to model Oddball's Sherman? If so, then I have plenty of other options, from Heller/Airfix LCA to PaK 40 ... this could even be the excuse I need to make the Attack PaK 43.

Oddball is first choice, though, and I've plenty on the go so I'm in no rush to start.

Phil I wouldn't go so far as calling the Tasca suspension a pain in the bottom, its gimmicky true but it's not hard to build. Just replace the layers of vinyl with equally sized bits from a pencil eraser.

Darren,

I have built a couple of the Tasca Shermans, the suspension is a pain! I have used sections of square stock to replace the vinyl, at some stage I might just try the pencil eraser idea, thanks for that. It would have, perhaps, been nice if Tasca had given the option of using the "working" suspension or a set of plastic blocks to replace the vinyl sheet.

Hello,

The only problem with "Oddball's" Sherman would be that "Kellys Hero's" is set in Italy.

Nooooooo it's not! The movie was made in the former Yugoslavia, but the setting was France (they were about to go to Nancy). However, if you recall, they "fought their way from Omaha" before Oddballs' CO was "decapitated by an 88". Don't you remember what the Tigers did to Shermans in the bocage? They ASSAULTED them.

Why for all these years have I thought it was set in Italy! I know it was made in Yugoslavia, hence the interesting vehicles that appear. I have not seen it for many years, perhaps I should blow the dust off my copy and watch it again!

I have the Tamiya early Sherman kit kindly donated by Timbo is it possible to do "Hurricane" listed as Normandy Aug-44 as this has a camo pattern a touch more interesting than just plain old olive drab.

Had e mail from Historex - Resicast Firefly bogies arrive tomorrow. Firefly etch arrived today so I should be able to get cracking. Usually build as much out of box as I can, or scratch my own bits and pieces - skill level permitting so thought I would go mad on this one as its my first group build. Havnt decided on regiment yet, Have Bison decal set so it will probably be off there - hope to get cutting and building tomorrow..Neil

would that be in OD or field applied camo, i've seen a picture of the camo but it has no date

The earlier photo with the wading gear shows it in overall Olive Drab with the code "H 2" on the turret, the later photo, dated the 16th of August 1944, shows the vehicle with camo striping, I personally think the "stripes" are black (faded and dirty) the code had gone from the turret by this time. The tracks in the later shot seem to be T48 Rubber chevron with the chevron almost completely worn away. The wading gear had gone by that time.
