spike7451
Found this HERE of the operational load for the Brimstone Missile. Look like a Litening pod on the centerline pylon. Merv
Julien
Good find Merv. Interesting to read that its now been fitted with an optical guidence warhead which will allow it to be used in the Stan. In addition to having a new precision guidance mode, the weapon's 50kg (110lb) launch weight will offer a low-collateral damage option to commanders in the battle against the Taliban That combined with the new Paveway IV will give the tonados an interesting capability. Cant wait to see how they load em up. ACn you get Brimstone on one side, pod centre line and then a IV on the other pylon, or would we be likly to see pairs with one carrying Brimstones and onther IV's? hatchet
Interesting that! It does seem to defeat the purpose of developing Brimstone tho', except for the, stronger I suppose, airframe. Cant wait to see how they load em up. ACn you get Brimstone on one side, pod centre line and then a IV on the other pylon, or would we be likly to see pairs with one carrying Brimstones and onther IV's?In my screwy head you could load 2*3 Brimstone on the right side, a P-IV in the middle, Litening front left and 2*P-IV rear left
scotthldr
So after all the publicity photos showing 12 Brimstones on the Tornado's, it actually goes to war with ONE!!! Hatchet, I don't think you can get 2 Paveways on the rear left, just the one I think.
hatchet
Hatchet, I don't think you can get 2 Paveways on the rear left, just the one I think.I was thinking that they could use a twin-store carrier They probably won't though, my guess would be a load of 3 Brimstones and 1 or maybe 2 Paveways. Cant put LGB'S on TSC's,Too heavy. But if you look closely at the photo,I think you'll only be able to get 2 Brimstone per adaptor as the inner one might interfear with the center mounted Lantirn pod. And I thought the pod (Litening, not Lantirn I think) was on the front portside pylon. Not that I've seen many pictures of it tho'.
Col.
Dare say you'll only need to carry the one if you can land it in the bad guy's lap
Julien
Seems the optical guidence mod was rushed through as MOD found they had brimstones but no tanks to shoot. A good idea as now Maverick has been phased out we had no weapon like it. I see the harrie rand Typhoon is scheduled to get them as well. Would look cool as a combined load on a Harrier. Ooops.meant Litening....Still cant put LGB's of any size on TSC's tho,Interesting idea tho. On the photo you can clearly see the pod fitted to the center pylon. It might be a recent Mod carried out due to the change of guidance.

Not sure - if it was on the centerline, shouldn't we be able to see the turret, or at least the collar where it attaches to the pod body?

Bobski
Paveway IVs on TSCs was looked at recently, I believe, but I don't know if anything became of it. A standard warload for PWIV would look something like this: Port side - LITENING III + 1x Paveway IV Centreline - 1x Paveway IV Starboard side - 2x Paveway IV Not sure about mixed Brimstone & Paveway IV loads... Must be with one of the new generation TSC's then as the existing type would need serious mods & strengthening & I doubt it'd be viable with the Tornado as it might interfear with the gun tank &/or nosewheel. scotthldr
As far as I know the Litening pod can be carried either Front forward Port or Centre line. Haven't heard anything regarding Maverick being phased out either
