darson Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Great looking work Mish, I would say that's a lot better than I could do but that's not much of a compliment if you know what I mean. Cheers
CPNGROATS Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Nice progress, trooper Fritz looks way young...and optomistic as well....lol.... D-Day Cheers, ggc
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Did a bit more this morning, worked first on the hands and arms. I've also done some work on the trousers and put a thin base wash on the smock.
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Nice work so far on the Zeltbahn Mish.
Mike Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Love the weathering on those boots.A good tip for eyes on small figures is to make sure the whites are in the corners only, it's always tempting to dot the iris in centrally, but too much white surround gives that googly eyes look! You seem to have avoided that though. I'd go as far as to say don't use white, as "scale", it'll scream at you - instead use a very pale grey. Paint a dark grey shadow under the upper eyelid, then paint in the iris in a dark color (not black!), making sure it touches the top & bottom of the eyelids (to prevent that startled look), then, if you have space, put in a pupil in black, and a catch-light in white in the top left or right quadrant of the iris/pupil. Make sure that the two match! Also, don't forget the eyebrows, or you'll end up with Ziggy Stardust
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Nice work so far on the Zeltbahn Mish. Okay edumacate me Daz my translator says Zeltbahn is Tent course ! Edited February 11, 2009 by Mish
daz greenwood Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Yep the Zeltbahn (poncho) could also be used as a tent.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 This afternoons efforts. Another wash on the Zeltbahn or smock as I have been calling it. Started work on some of the ancillaries.
Tigerausfb Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) Mish, good job so far. If it helps you with the pattern, this site covers the Zeltbahn quite well. It was printed in slightly different shades on each side. Also the Collectors Guild has some very useful photos of stuff they are selling Collectors Guild Just scroll down to the bottom and click on the Zeltbahn pics Andy Edited February 11, 2009 by Tigerausfb
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Fantastic Andy that is very useful. Thanks
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Did a little more this evening. Started on the Zeltbahn camo, not quite happy with it yet. Also did some more work on the back and the ammo box, again more work needed.
ollieholmes Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 For painting eyes i tend to paint them slightly overscale and then go back and touch them up with the skin tone. He is looking very nice so far, keep up the work.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 Thanks all, I've spent a few hours studying the figure against some references and I'm not happy with the base colour of the Zeltbahn, so I think I'm going to redo it and start it again.
Skii Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Thats some really nice paintwork Mish, ditto on Mike's comments on the eyes - less is more in this respect and avoid trying to replicate the eyeball with paint at all costs. Looking really good mate.
T-Tango Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Looking good so far Mish, following the build with interest.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 A good days work today. Quite happy with the way everything has done. I repainted the body as I didn't like the base colour, applied the camo and weathered the whole lot down. I've glued the head, arms and feet on and attached the rifle. Next I have to build the Anti tank weapon, (Name please Daz ) Then all the pouches etc have to be cut from the casting block painted and attached. So good progress and I'm happy with the results so far.
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks Andy still looks like his commanding officer has told him to take out a patrol of Shermans on his own
Tedfellows Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Looks really good Mish! I'll beat Daz to naming the weapon PanzerShreck or translated Tank Terror! Adam
Brews Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Very realistic, especially the smock. The boy is carrying a "Panzerschreck", which literally means "Tank Terror". It was pretty fearsome, too. It was a copy of the bazooka, but the Germans used a larger calibre - 88mm. The Americans wanted to use that calibre, too (3.5" ... close enough) but they had this huge stock of 65mm grenades that they thought would be useful for something. So, the troops got what the Government wanted to give them, rather than what they needed. But that's by the by They got the 3.5" bazooka eventually - in time for the Korean War.
Dads203 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Good job Mish, rather a nice figure Regards Dan
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Thanks guys, will be working on the Panzerschreck today. Brews just painted a couple of rounds for the Panzershreck and they are a size aren't they?
AnonymousDFB1 Posted February 15, 2009 Author Posted February 15, 2009 Okay, this mornings work. Panzershreck going together, as all the PE has gone walkabout I have scratchbuilt the guard on the rear, the sights and the shoulder rest.
