Pascal
I've seen drawings of this Spitfire flown by LT Leland Philips Molland, CO of 308th Sqn, 31 FG USAAF, Italy 1944, that have the code HL-X and HL-K. Does anybody know which one is correct ? The X or the K ? Greetings Pascal Edited January 24, 2009 by Pascal
Seahawk
I've seen drawings of this Spitfire flown by LT Leland Philips Molland, CO of 308th Sqn, 31 FG USAAF, Italy 1944, that have the code HL-X and HL-K.Does anybody know which one is correct ? The X or the K ? Greetings Pascal Remember having the same question myself. Answer is HL-K. Source: photo and artwork in "American Spitfire Camouflage and Markings Part 1" by Ludwig and Laird, p. 41. Caption explicitly says previous illustrations as HL-X were in error. PS Don't forget the yellow bands on the outer wings. Nick
Pascal
Thanks Nick , Are the yellow bands on the upper and lower wings ? Greetings, Pascal
Seahawk
Thanks Nick ,Are the yellow bands on the upper and lower wings ? Greetings, Pascal Pascal Not clear from the photo. Artwork shows above and below, about 1 foot wide, outer edge aligned with wingtip attachment panel line. Bars of wing stars-and-bars overlap bands (bands extend inward to inner edge of blue outline of bar of star-and-bar). Nick
Pascal
Thanks Nick, I just looked at the instruction sheet of the ICM Mk VIII Spit, it has the bands above and below, and the stars-and-bars overlap the bands. So if you ask me, the guys from ICM did a very good job with this kit. Greetings Pascal
