Jelly
Evening Everybody Just made a start on my next build. This time it's Italeri's Tornado IDS converted into a GR.4. This will be my first commision build for crew up at Marham, and she will be in two colour scheme's, one on each side of the tail. One will be 2Sqn's "SHINY TWO" and the other 31Sqn's "GOLD STARS". Various Paragon parts will be added, including their Flap set, Burner cans, Fin correction and bulged wheels. The decals will be from Model Alliance, and the bombs / pods from Flight Path. I've read that this kit can be a bit of a pig, this will be the second i have done and apart from the leading edge inserts, i can't fault it. The two aircraft in question, first up 31 Sqn's "GOLD STARS" And 2 Sqn's "Shiny Two" The Italeri Boxing Sprues shots Decals from Model Alliance And resin from Paragon Designs, i forgot to take a snap of the Flaps though! Made a start on the cockpit, a few minor changes from the IDS kit. The main fuse together with a small amount of filler and some re-scribing done. The port gun filled as not on the GR.4 Went over all the panel lines with the scriber. Marcus Edited January 18, 2009 by Jelly
Jelly
Another dilema was the Tornado IDS kit only has one sensor pod included that fits under the nose. To sort this i used some old resin off cuts, measured my other kit and whittled one down to fit. I'm quite pleased how it turned out. The missing pod Resin ready of chopping. Whittled and ready to be added. More soon!
Jelly
Some more progress on the Tornado, all the resin extra's have now been added and the whole lot has had a coat of Halfords Grey Primer. First up, the Paragon resin flaps and slats. The chopped wings with the flaps added, they come all joined on the resin block but i decided to seperate each one before adding them. The fuse opened up to add the swing wing route jackets. The excellent burner cans and reverse thrust mechanism in place. The old part removed and the Fin correction bonded in place. Everything primed and a small amount of Milliput around the base of the tail. More soon!! Marcus
Alan P
Should have put these in the Tornado Group Build Jelly. You've made more progress than the rest put together!

eng
Superb effort so far, I really enjoy watching your builds and this is truly inspirational - I seem to have re-discovered enthusiasm for the Tonka! Look forward to next set of pic's, nice one. Eng

Shaun
Nice project, will be watching this one. Nice idea with the dual scheme, should be easy to do as both aircraft have black spines. A quick note- Why have the Anni schemes lasted so long on the current Tornado aircraft, they are all now quite a few years old! Shaun.
Kit's Kits
Great looking build - well done! It's always good to see kits of aircraft I've seen flying and I've managed to catch and photograph both of these! Cheers, Chris.
Jelly
Evening Guys Another update on the Tornado, she is now decalled up and is just waiting for her tanks and bombs / pods to be completed. First up, i added some brake lines and Bare Metal Foil to the landing gear. Everything painted, these two aircraft have different schemes for the grey so i opted to do one all over as it would have looked odd. Decals now on. And some resin from Flightpath. T0M4ever
What did you do about locating the wings properly? Do they sit ok without the locating pins?
jussie202
Marcus, They look amazing, extremely nice looking jets. How come you're not in the group build? I'm making Shiny Two at the moment but I'm a little bit behind you (just finishing the build before painting). What paint did you use for your greys? Good luck with the rest of it, I can't wait to see the finished product
Jelly
Thanks Guys Tom - Yes i have cut out the locating pins, the wing route 'boots' that come with the Paragon flap set are such a nice tight fit that there is enough resistance there to hold the wings in place. Justin - Colours used were Xtracrylic X-004 for the upper surfaces and X-036 for the rest. 'SHINY TWO' does not have the two tone scheme but this would have looked odd painting them differently so i opted for this scheme all over. Just the base to finsh before she head's off. The rest Marcus  Edited February 13, 2009 by Jelly

_H_
Wow! That looks awesome. I'm not much of a fan of modern jets and that makes me want to build a Tornado right now! Great work fella! Howard
Vincenzo
This model is not a plane, but the PLANE, to any nation it belongs it is always a wonderful plane! Congratulations, you've done it very well, the Paragon resin sets give a significant help; the only doubt I have is relet the exhaust nozzle color, I say to you only because I see often live italian's Tornado, but this does not affect the beauty of the model. Best regards
Habu12
Out-effing-standing! I have one of these kits in my stash, and this sure makes me want to build it!
