Peter Marshall
Today, making the Mohawk look dirty, with oil washes. I was asked to go through this stage by stage, so apologies if you already know how to do this First what you need: Turpentine, Raw Umber Oil paint, and Rust / Black Ableitung Mig Oil paints. Start by putting a small blob of Raw Umber paint in your mixing cup, then gradually add turps until you have a very thin mix with no lumps of paint. Then with a fine brush pick up some of the wash, and touch to a panel line. The oil wash will shoot along the panel. Have a cotton bud ready, and if any goes over the edges of the panels, use the cotton bud to wipe the excess away lightly in the direction of the airflow After a first pass you get something like this: Then build up a few more layers, gradually adding some of the black / rust to the mix and try to be a little random, just like real dirt. Then I sprayed a very thin (95% thinners to 5% paint), coat over the areas washed to blend it in a little. This gives you this effect, which looks like an aircraft the army is responsible for I then unmasked the wheel wells and gave them a wash with the oils Finally I unmasked all of the cockpit, and opened the side doors into the open position. Nearly done, only the U/C, underwing stores and the lights, anteanae. Peter

NormanD
Its looking great Peter I'm not sure if your aware that the doors hing slightly lower than you've posed them, and that they don't open all that wide ... these pictures might be of some help. This website I found of great help, while I built this kit a few times Mohawk I hope you're not offended by this Norman
Peter Marshall
I hope you're not offended by thisNorman Not offended in the least - your being helpful, though it's now in the, oh dear too late category, unless they meet with an untimely accident when I fit the undercarraige. This is being a pig of a kit, especially the decals, so I am just looking forward to getting it finished. Peter - who's looking forward to a nice hurricane to relax..... Peter Marshall
I sprayed the de-icing boots, and fitted the sway braces for the ordinance. Then stopped taking photos in an attempt to get it finished. Even though I filled the nose completely with lead it's still a tail sitter, which I can't believe... Anyway some quick photos of the finished Mohawk, I will take some proper ones tomorrow. Peter
