Ian
Okay folks, I asked Antoine, and he said it's OK to post a couple of shots of mine as a comparison. So (deep breath) here they are:- It is recorded that when the Japanese chased the British out of Burma and Singapore, the Air Force found huge stockpiles of British paints at one of the major depots - I think it was Singapore, but I cannot be certain. As their aircraft went through maintenance some were repainted, in random patterns, with RAF Dark Earth. This was done without any preparation, right on top of the Nakajima Army Green, apparently this green it was a deep olive colour when it cam out of the factory but weathered out to a bright grassy green in the humidity. Looking forward, Antoine, to seeing how yours turns-out. Regards Ian
Antoine
Looking forward, Antoine, to seeing how yours turns-out. You mean burn out? Looking really good Ian. Funny to see the different interpretations about camo on a given aircraft. Very nice weathering on the underside. I see you choose aotake too, so I'm not alone! No radio antenna? Ian
No radio antenna? Antenna post yes - you can just see it in the first pic, but no cable/wire - apparently it was common up until mid 1943 for Army Air Force fighters to do without radios, usually just fitted to formation leaders aircraft. You're right about the radio installation. That said, most of the pics I've seen show a wire, and for those who don't, it's because of bad quality. I don't think its an indication about the presence or not of the radio, but I may be wrong. Anyway, I got to try to glue the wire three point. The last time I've tried (With a 109) was a complete mess...
Antoine
Canopy masking. The surface was not smooth on the leading edge, so, sanding. But I've also sanded some details. They're back with the help of alu tape. But anyway, the surface is still not smooth enough, so I'm back at my starting point.
Antoine
After much little problem trying to put an undercoat of TS30, I've at last painted the leading edges in yellow/orange. Masks off. Undercarriage painted. Still a few things to do. I'm lucky with masking for the moment, I hope it'll last! Engine cowling painted. It's varnished with pebeo varnish, first time for me. You can see that there are some wet traces, but everything is dry!! It was ok at first, then the traces were there! An error while thinning with water? Nevertheless, I still have to weather the cowling, then varnish again. I'll take special care then.

Antoine
TS30 coat, before applying camo. And then, to help weathering, application of the liquid mask.

Antoine
Down the masks: First the tape And the the liquid mask. But it's not funny when there are no problems: I forgot something... And there, the paper stuck to the paint... I'll correct this asap, not a big deal. I'm quite satisfied. What do you think of the result?
Ian
Great idea, tried it on a (late) Zero once but it didn't work too well. Smart to not have the 'bandages' weathered also - apparently they used a higher quality paint for them. Keep the pics coming, Antoine. Ian

I'll weather them a little bit in the end. Here is a pic of maybe the same aircraft
Antoine
Varnish. After decaling (It was rather quick, as the main marking where already painted!), I've airbrushed a coat of pebeo varnish, diluted with window cleaner. It gives a really nice matt finish. A little problem though, I believed that I could make it without a coat of gloss varnish before the decals. I was wrong, because there's a little bit of silvering here and there. But I don't really mind, as it's not really visible, and for me it's still a "school kit". The little parts are ready tto, just in need of a bit of weathering (And some markings for the tank). Thanks for looking.

Antoine
Thanks a lot, Pete. Was just trying to give a descent opponent to your Brewster! I'd get a few problems with decals and weathering, but it shouldn't alter the final result (At least I hope....).
