Antoine
First build started in 2009. It will be an OOB, with very little scratch, no PE and no resin. My main aim will be to make it as clean as possible. I'll also try certain tips for heavy weathered Japanese aircraft. What's in the box. Antoine
Let's go. Starting with the pit. I've just added a few copper wires straight on the engraved plastic lines. A coat of TS30, and then, I've put a few drops of liquid mask randomly. Then, a coat of interior green. A few bits of red, yellow and green here and there (I use the aerodetail book). And, with a toothpick, I remove the liquid mask. The interior green is some kind of Vallejo/prince august paint, and doesn't stick too well on the TS30. So its peeling a little bit too much to my liking, but it's not really important, as nearly nothing will be seen once the fuselage halves will be glued. Don't forget the pit itself. I've made some straps on the rudder bar, with masking tape. I've tried to use the panel's decals, but they didn't stick too well. So I've done a little bit of alu drybrushing, with some bits in red and yellow. Its not yet finished, I have to make some seat straps, and also a wash. Antoine
An attempt to recreate the aotake lacquer effect: A coat of TS30. And then a coat of X23 clear blue.
Antoine
I've finished the pit. Added the lap straps, with a buckle. Very difficult for me to make a smaller one. The engine, painted tyre black, with an alu drybrush. Then a brown/red wash. Complete with the radiator.

Muller
Great work so far, like the paint-chipping in the cockpit, the aotake looks spot on too!
Antoine
the aotake looks spot on too! Thank you! No too sure about that. I think that I'll have a another try with a drop of clear green added to the blue.
Antoine
More little bits. I wanted to represent the cowl flaps open. The inside was sanded with the help of my faithfull dremel. I cut each flaps with a razor saw. And then I bended carefully each one of them open. I glued each legs (they come in two parts), and then added the brake's flexible, and fixed it with cyano and metal tape.
Antoine
I just had another try with aotake. I was not satisfied with the blue, so I've tried a blue green (Mix of clear blue and clear green). There is no landing light in a Ki-43-I, only from late Ki-43-II on... And anyway I've lost the light clear cover. I've used a little bit of sprue and glued it in place. Once dry, it was cut to the correct length, and then sanded to get the shape of the wing's leading edge. I've also glued a thin copper wire to give the trim cable a better look. Antoine
DOH! silly me! looks interesting with the paint chipping too! That's what I was aiming for with this kit. Improve some weathering technique, mostly chipping paint on an alu coat. Here is the plan: - Coat of TS30 - Randomly application of mr masking sol neo - Coat of green/grey - Rub the masking sol - Maybe a few scratches here and there with a cutter? I'll see. Ian
Built one last year - really enjoyed it too. Wont hi-jack your thread, Antoine, but let me know if it's OK to post pics of mine in this thread - just as a comparison. Best Ian

Wont hi-jack your thread, Antoine, but let me know if it's OK to post pics of mine in this thread - just as a comparison.Best Ian I'm sorry you can't, your builds are far below my well known standard... Joking (Bad joke as usual), You're more than welcome, Ian. Seeing your build can give me some ideas. Anyway, this one will finish (I hope) in the critique corner. I always ask for comments (I've never enough for my taste), good or bad as soon as they're constructive.
Antoine
Masking. I've cut the hinomaru in some tamiya tape. The large one, but still not as large as I needed. I had to take to stripes, one above the other. I only hope that there will be no blur once the tape is removed. To cut the tape, I've used a circular cutter (?). Then another coat of white. While it's drying, I've masked the anti-glare panel around the pit. I'll let everything dry till tomorrow.
