jenshb
Bummer that John. Are you sure Airfix got that wheel well right? If there is a panel line running around the circumference of the fuselage at that stage, that indicates a bulkhead, and being at the end of the wheel well, I don't see any benefit in making a cutout in the bulkhead to accommodate some extra space as long as it doesn't prevent the gear from operating properly... Skii
Juanjo school - hehe nice one Jen Thanks peeps - bit of a bugger this problem, but I've now got a handle on it Bummer that John. Are you sure Airfix got that wheel well right? If there is a panel line running around the circumference of the fuselage at that stage, that indicates a bulkhead, and being at the end of the wheel well, I don't see any benefit in making a cutout in the bulkhead to accommodate some extra space as long as it doesn't prevent the gear from operating properly...Jens Hi Jens Yeah I'm pretty sure the location of the wheel well is correct - the front gear leg runs down directly behind the electronics bay, so I can't imagine the wheel bay could extend much further than that in reality. I've remedied the problem by cutting away the front corner of the wheelbay to accomodate the resin corner of the avionics bay, it doesn't look great, but with the front gear leg in place with supporting struts, wiring and cabling and gear doors in place, I'm banking on most of the problem being hidden from sight from most angles More pics to follow later
Ian
I really squirm when folks - usually not Brits - write "I feel your pain" (Shudders), but to be honest, that's quite appropriate here. Even though I've not met you - I think - I'm certain you will overcome that 10mm with one hand tied behind your back ! - Now get on with it ! Geoff_B
Whoops Sorry John it didn't click that your were using the original kit nose wheel bay as we worked out it would foul the Avionics bay should one be fitted. The CMK wheel bay set is slightly shorter so it should work well with the avionics bay. On a side note i have noticed that CMK have just released their resin wheels as a seperate set to enhance the kit without getting the full wheel bay sets. they have also issed the Avionics bay seperately (however i can't see a way you could easilly fit the additional bay on the other side as all details are orientated for the one side only - pity as the other side wide have been a nice touch). Cheers Geoff PS TSRJOE did a pair of photoreference CD's for the TSR2 a few years ago with Enyigma graphics which are invluable for building and detailling the TSR2. Not sure if available on-line, but either have a word with him at a show or send him a PM on here )
Skii
Cheers Ian and Geoff All sorted now - the front leg will hide the sins so onto the main gearbays. Incidentally Geoff - what did XR219 carry in her bomb-bay during testing ? I was considering the model with the bomb bay open, but seeing as all that was contained was a load of insulation padding I'm not so sure ! cheers John

JakeEaton
His is a beaut isn't it. I guess you're not going to do a preshading jobby like on your tonka and lanc right skii? Preshaded white just looks plain wrong. I admired your FRS.1 for the lack of preshading actually, quite a different style for you if I may say so. PHREAK
Cracking work there, very nice.. so glad we binned the TSR2 and bought the F4.... Am I being biased :whistling: Cheers, Neil Biased ? Not a bit of old son.......the TSR2 is history thanks to a weak government and our friends across the water (ooeeeer, a little bit of politics there!) touting the F-111. Love the FGR2 although it was a bit daft not buying the J in the first place! Quality work on the pit Mike.....you really out to get out a bit. Biased ? Thanks Jake, sorry to dissapoint you mate, but the aircraft will be preshaded in certain areas to reflect the grubby areas on he original aircraft, it wouldn't have looked right on a glossy sea harrier, but on this model, I think it will, if done carefully and sparingly Rich.....I think LOL Rich - lay of the sauce mate, its the middle of the week John
Geoff_B
Hi John Joe thinks XR219 had the same avionics test instruments package as XR220, but could be used with or without the thermal blanket if you have the CMK set. BTW checked the CMK wheelbay set and the nose wheel bay is shorter than the kit item. Cheers Geoff
JakeEaton
That's fair enough skii, I wasn't knocking your preshaded models by the way. I've just always imagined the TSR2 as quite a pristine aircraft...your reference pictures show a different story entirely!
Geoff_B
That's fair enough skii, I wasn't knocking your preshaded models by the way. I've just always imagined the TSR2 as quite a pristine aircraft...your reference pictures show a different story entirely! Jake that sort of depends, Cosford museum shots of XR220 show her after 10-15yrs as maintenance training airframe for the RAF apprentices, so many of the panels have been removed and refitted numerous times and thus resulting in loss of paint on many mpanel screws and highlighting those panels that they play with she has also never been repainted and is shown in her original and now worn paint. Shots of XR219 in flight tend to show her at the early stage of flight testing, quite a few were performed in the short time she was flying and various glitches needed to be attended to during this program so she tends to look worn in places. However if you see XR222 at Duxford she is pristine in white after being restored and reapainated ready for the new hall. The other aspect is that they are rather large aircraft and would need a team of nerks with suitable ground equipment to reach the airframe to actually clean and polish them !!!!. falcon
Here is a pic of the CMK weapons bay in the model. This is one I recently completed for the TSR-2 IPMS (UK) SIG. And here are a few pics of the completed aircraft.

Skii
Cheers Anthony - love the sig by the way Thanks for those pics Chris - I'm quite in interested in the orange/white scheme you did, is it based on a proposed TSR scheme or something of your own design? I like it ! The cmk bomb bay does look really nice though ! - more progress to report The front gearbay had the front corner removed to accomodate the electronics bay, I've undercoated the bay black in preparation for dusting with progressively lighter shades. The good thing is the front undercarriage leg will pretty much obscure that little fiasco, so no harm there The rear gear bays have had some extra detail added to the existing eduard pipework - they will receive a subtle wash and the cabling / pipes will get a little more colour.
