Airfix TSR.2

Do you have a day job? This looks as though it's going to be fantastic. I just wish I had the time to try and achieve what you achieve. I will be following closely though as I have a couple of TSR.2s in my stash as well as the resin bits to go with them.

Note to self - don't put pictures of desert TSR.2 on here until well after Skii's topic has dropped off the front page!

Thanks chaps :D

Roland, yeah I do have a full time job selling AV equipment, however the long suffering fiancee puts up with my intensive modelling sessions...most of the time... :nerd:

Please don't hesitate in posting your desert TSR.2, I'd love to see it !

Looking great so far!

I snagged a couple of these when they came out. One will be a 'fully loaded with aftermarket' prototype and the other will be an in flight 'WIF' using Xtradecals and SAM resin weapons.

I'm quite looking forward to them, but I must say you've set the bar pretty high with this build!

Steve.

Speaking of finding TSR 2's.

My total refusal to pay ebay prices on one paid off. A non planned visit to hannants, popped into the back room with all the '2nd hand' kits and whats there, a TSR 2 for 20 quid!!!!

Guess what, i grabbed it and the CMK Wheel well set which is just lush!

They were telling me they only put it out for sale 15 mins before I bought it! :analintruder:

Pretty good timing then huh :)

Stunning build SKII, I still remember that Tornado of yours, bloody marvelous! Will take inspiration from yours :)

There is a lot of fantastic plastic on this board already, and this TSR2 is looking brilliant so far. Definitely up to you usual standards Skii. I had put off getting too much resin, but your avionics bay a 'pit look terrific... I might have to get me some of that.

Keep the updates coming.

Thankyou peeps

Well here is the next update - the 90% finished cockpit. The joystick will be added last, the seats are loose at the moment and the front coming will have a HUD added ( Geoff / TSRJoe / Falcon - need your help chaps, can't find a pic anywhere of the HUD assembly)

Quite nice this eduard pre-painted stuff - damn fiddley, but nice :)

As far as i can tell the HUD wasn't fitted on XR219, in the books and photo CD the only image has been a schematic of the fwd cockpit indicating thier should be one and that the Hunter T-12 was being used to flight test the HUD as well as some other systems. I think there was a camera fitted to record the pilots responses as their appears to be a fitting of some kind offset on the coming of XR220. (TSR2JOE will know more)

Cockpits looking really good, looking forward top seeing this model progess.

Cheers

Skii,

It's a bit off posting photoshopped images of the real cockpit and claiming that it's your 1/72 scale model. :D In the words of Victor Meldrew "I don't believe it"

Seriously, just a fantastic piece of work, can't wait to see the rest of the build

Cheers,

Ian

Thankyou guys - nods of approval from the Britmodeller posse all round then - excellent :)

Geoff - you've saved me some extra work there, I guess I'll leave the front coaming as it is and consider it finished - time to move on to the undercarriage bays.

Thanks again peeps

John

Managed to make contact with TSRJOE re the hud, it was certainly fitted to XR220 and is shown on your completed cockpit. The bowl in the coaming is the HUD lense and projected directly onto the windscreen, thus no framing to support a seperate projection glass. In addition to the HUD most of the instruments were illuminated for night time usage.

 Yes! Go to your room & think about what you said. And don't come down until you learn to behave! :P

Thankyou chaps, I'm glad you like it

Geoff- thank you very much for the hud info, definately makes sense as I was looking at the FS2004 model by Alphasim which show cockpit shots with a full functional HUD, but projected seemingly onto the windshield. Thanks again for that :thumbsup2

Now - ladies and gents, here is the first stumbling block of combining the CMK resin pit with the Airfix kit.

See that big white thing ? thats the front wheelbay, and the black block it is sitting on is the rear of the resin avionics bay - yep, its supposed to go right there - a whole centimetre of the front wheelbay area is occupied by resin.

Bugger.

Looks like I'm going to have to shorten the front wheelbay by about 10 mil . Kept this bit quiet in the instructions didn't ya CMK ? :badmood:
