ollieholmes
I thought i would start a new progress thread for this one so here goes. Im going to use the Italeri Spitfire IX kit with the AMC models conversion kit to make a floatplane. This should make a very interesting model once complete. So first things first the Italeri fuesalage: Box art for the conversion: Decal sheet: And the parts:

Doug Rogers
I don't think there are many pictures of the MkIX Floatplane around, in fact I think the only one I've seen of it is the one on the AMC box cover. I've got this conversion to do as well Ollie, so I'll be interested to see how you get on. What was the join like for the tail section, I'm not sure which donor kit to use as they vary considerably in thickness in the tail cross section. I'm intending to use an ICM kit, but they have relatively slender tails and I don't want a 'step' in the join if I can avoid it. perry
Here is the same conversion I did a while back using an ICM kit as donor. The only problem I found was the resin tail which is much thicker than the fuselarge of the ICM. I ended up cutting the bottom fin from the resin tail and glueing and filling to the bottom of the kit tail. Seemed a much easier option than trying to sand the 'step' away. Glad to see you've pinned the floats so that you can attach the floats to the lower wings Ollie, those resin floats are very heavy and you'd struggle to glue them and make them stay in place without Pez
Doug Rogers
That looks nice Perry, you were brave doing the engine as well!
ollieholmes
Ive pinned all the resin parts apart from the Tail section to the fuesalage. Dont ask about the step around the rear fuesalage. There is a fairly obvious one there even after sanding back the fuesalage as much as i dare. Im just going to finish it and hope no one looks to closely. Maybe in time i will rebuild it.
