John Masters Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Nice to be home and back at the bench. This will be another 19 Sq. build using the Xtradecal sheet. I don't have many left to build for this little Personal Build project... Huh...suddenly I can longer link images from Flickr...what gives?
John Masters Posted October 9 Author Posted October 9 Ok. I've worked out a work-around for my Flickr issues... I think I'll go for this paint job... --John 1 1

John Masters Posted October 12 Author Posted October 12 This is quickly assuming a familiar shape... Intakes and office assembled... Two halves make a whole... There are some seams here and there that will have to be addressed, but overall I think this is a pretty good kit. --John 3
Jabba Posted October 13 Posted October 13 A good and quick start. Yes, getting the fuselage together can be a bit difficult at times.

Thank you, and no lie. This is not necessarily one of Airfix's easier new mould kits. It required tape, etc...to hold things together. And I will need to use putty on the wings as there are gaps. I stopped last night as the next sections of the plane seems to address landing gear and so forth. I need to make a decision on underwing stores and attach the pylons I'll need. As this was a Jubilee Review aircraft, I'll use the drop tanks and the Sparrows for sure. Probably the Sidewinders as they look the part. --John 4
Jabba Posted October 18 Posted October 18 You seem to be beating this one into submission. I think that the hardest part is now over. I made this aircraft a few years ago and from the pictures that I found of her, he only had the wing tanks fitted and both inner pylons fitted with only 1 sidewinder rail fitted to the outer position of the Port inner pylon.

Thanks for the info. That sets the stage for the next round. Do you have photo or drawing that I can use?
John Masters Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 ...and on that note...primer...note that I added the control surfaces as prescribed in the plans. --John 4

The photo I found is in one of the Patrick Martin books about the British Phantoms, so I cannot really post here. I can see if I can find another though.
Jabba Posted October 19 Posted October 19 John, I may have slightly led you on a bum steer. The model that I made was of XV439 (A), which was the other 19 Sqn aircraft that took part in the flypast. This was made using some Modeldecal decals and there are some photos of that aircraft on the instructions. The photo of XV474 (F) that I have is taken of the Port side, so I cannot really see what is on the Stbd side, but I am thinking that it maybe the same as the one that I built. One other thing though if you are building your aircraft as part of the flypast is that the cheques either side of the roundel are of the darker (earlier) blue that 19 Sqn first used. These were changed so that their aircraft did not get confused with 43 Sqn. I could try and copy the photo and send to you as a PM if you require?

John Masters Posted October 24 Author Posted October 24 I gave all the white parts a bit of airbrushing last night. I'm off to Crete this morning for conference. I hope to be back on the bench by Monday evening. Have a fine weekend everyone! --John 1
John Masters Posted October 30 Author Posted October 30 Well, time to paint. USAF Light Gull Grey seemed like good choice for the underside and the fuel pods. I also painted the Sidewinders. While I had it in the airbrush, I chose to use it on another, earlier RAF build (Hurricane). --John 4
John Masters Posted 12 hours ago Author Posted 12 hours ago I really have to get a move on with this one...The GB is almost over. I'll crack on when I com home on Thursday.
