djktrumpet Posted September 28 Posted September 28 (edited) I'm going to have a shot at building the Italeri (ex AMT/ERTL) 1/48 Tigercat. I first came across this aircraft at Duxford Flying Legends some 20 years ago, when The Fighter Collection still had their Tigercat, and was astonished by this monster of a plane that I'd never heard of at that time. Incredibly impressive in the air, so fast and purposeful-looking, yet with a certain elegance. Developed too late to see combat in WW2, but served in Korea. I've obtained the Eduard etch set, and Scale Aircraft Conversions' white metal undercarriage. The latter because the Tigercat is a notorious tail-sitter, but I'm going to have a go at getting enough weight in there! Edited October 4 by djktrumpet Changed from imgur to Hobby Photo Host 9 2

dnl42 Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Ooh, I love every F7F build, it's a gorgeous aircraft! It could be a tail sitter IRL, so something to hold the tail are historically correct. See this post from @Troy Smith Also, it's the main gear that take the brunt of the weight when you right a tail sitter. 4 1
2996 Victor Posted September 28 Posted September 28 One of my absolute favourite aeroplanes! I quite fancy having a go at a -3P photo reconnaissance version. How is the AMT/Ertl kit for accuracy? Cheers, Mark
modelling minion Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Welcome to the GB, and with a fantastic choice of subject! The Tigercat was a very powerful aircraft and a very good looking one too, I well remember the one from Duxford and it's performances. This kit definitely is a tail sitter, just like the real thing could be, and if I remember rightly come with something to prop the tail up. Very much looking forward to seeing how you get on with this one. 1

Andwil Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Hopefully the wings won’t have the extreme dihedral of the box art example! AW 1
81-er Posted October 2 Posted October 2 Welcome to the GB Unfortunately you seem to be caught up in the Imgur pulling out of the UK mess (as am I), so I can't see your photos James 1 1
djktrumpet Posted October 3 Author Posted October 3 Hmm - hadn’t been aware of the imgur thing - will have to investigate… 1
djktrumpet Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 OK, caught up on imgur issue. Shame, it was a good solution while it lasted. I'll give Hobby Photo Host a try - initial impression is that the interface is a bit clunky, but seems to work so far. 3
81-er Posted October 4 Posted October 4 That's better I'm signed up for them as well now, and I'd agree it's a little clunky. I do like the Chrome extension for posting the images in threads though James 3
