CedB Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Things are drying on the last build so time for another. I have two albums for future builds on Flickr. A 1/32 Lancaster with a long story… not ready for that yet. And this one: I need something simple after the Marauder and you can't get much simpler than this: I do love a Hog. I had a previous 1/144 scale one for ages, but it got battered: This one's a bit bigger: Enough of an intro, I'm off to search BM for previous builds so I don't need to show the part trees. Lazy. 17 1
CedB Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 Ooh, good, there's a GB on the A-10 here and Dave Klaatu posted the trees here: Lots of stuff to read, see you later. 1
Biggles87 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Wow! First here, plenty of room at the bar. John. 🇺🇦 1
Hamden Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I'm in I'll join John at the bar and wait for the fun to begin Looking forward to seeing this one come together! Roger 1
Terry1954 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Look, I'm here on page one, and early too! Love the A10. Never forgotten a display I saw by two of them years ago where one was always in a shallow dive with the 'pretend' target in its sights, while the other one repositioned ready to take over from his mate.. and repeat, and repeat etc. Impressive act, however useful or not, the maneuver was. Really showed off the maneuverability of the aircraft. Press on Ced! T. 2
Lord Riot Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Love the Hog, such a mean machine. I remember them low level over East Anglia, with their distinctive ‘spin-drier’ whine. One occasion stands out in particular, when four A-10s circled over Salthouse Beach and Cley Marshes, taking turns to swoop down low and pretend strafe the wetland area. They must have done five or six goes each before heading back down to Suffolk. 3

There was just the A-10 single type group build. Should be plenty of info there. 2 1
CedB Posted September 20 Author Posted September 20 Welcome John, Roger, Terry, Giorgio, Lord Riot and Dennis A start has been made: We have guests this weekend so maybe more tomorrow. 13 1 1
hendie Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Seat booked. If it's a Hog then I guess I'll forego my dried cuttlefish and have a bag of Mr Porky's 4
Keeff Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Ooh, a new build and a Hog too ... niiiiiice! So, if some other page 1 members can kindly shuffle along, I'll grab my snacks and join the fun .... Keith ☺️ 1 2
billn53 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Just saw this, mind if I pull up a chair? I built the Revell kit a few years back (part of my Wisconsin ANG collection) and had great issues with the split aileron/speed brake assembly — Revell allows you to build them open, but if you want them closed the fit is problematic. Hope the Academy kit is better in this regard. 1
perdu Posted September 22 Posted September 22 So you WILL gloss varnish this before you add decals and then matt the lot afterwards wont you? Oh yes this I have to see. Pint? 1 1 1
Brandy Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Ooh, nice! And I get a seat at the bar! Carry on that man! Ian 1

Ian Thank you Sarg Finishing off the Marauder but did get another bit done: Not the most detailed so I think I'll relax a bit with this one. Famous last words. I see with horror that this, like the Marauder, requires weight in the nose. I dry fitted the wings to see if it fitted in the cabinet, otherwise it would go on the ceiling. Sadly I think it'll fit More soon. 10 2
alt-92 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Hang it from the ceiling! Complete with some fluffballs of cotton to imitate the BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT 4
Whofan Posted September 22 Posted September 22 (edited) Lookee here. Ced's on another build before one is finished. I have to say life imitates art; I'm starting another build before I finish one, to be exact an airfix E type jaguar and a PM models IAI Dagger. I'm not going to say who is life and who is art, (snigger), I'll reserve a place near the bar so when I get fed up with trying to make the PM Dagger a sow's ear (tells you a lot about the PM kit, doesn't it!) or trying to remember what I need to do on the airfix E type I can amble across and see what Ced's up to. Doing a grand job, of course! Edited September 25 by Whofan 2
The Spadgent Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Phew!! I made page one. (Just) seems like a nice crowd already. 🤗 Great start on the office Mr B. I’m looking forward to this one for sure. I know what you mean about fitting things in the cabinet. Especially after my pesky Martian. wasabi peas and a mint tea at the ready. 👍 Johnny 1 2
perdu Posted September 23 Posted September 23 I really should encourage you to hang the Hog, but I cannot honestly advocate such drasticity so I'll not! Just hanging with the boys at the bar now. Nice crowd already. 1 1 1

This assembly's a bit weird but I ran with it, ignoring the notch in the upright bit. No, I don't know what it's for. Perhaps we'll find out later. It goes together quite well with some help: Good old Berna clamps. The wings also required some clamping in weird places: Especially on the tips: Also a note. There seems to be a lot of release agent hanging around which made paint and transfer adhesion a bit weak. I usually don't wash parts before assembly as I give everything a wipe over with IPA before priming to remove handling oils. Maybe I should have washed the internals? 7 1

giemme Posted September 25 Posted September 25 17 hours ago, CedB said: Maybe I should have washed the internals? I do a quick pass with a Q-tip moistened with IPA on the internal parts, normally - but sometimes I just forget about it, and I don't recall any major problems. Keep in mind though that I base coat everything with Tamiya Flat Black thinned with cellulose thinner; it grips quite well on bare plastic, maybe it's unaffected by release agents... Ciao 2 1
