Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted September 13 Posted September 13 I have been hanging off far too long to build this kit and now I have the perfect reason. It will be finnished in Finnish Air Force markings. Some quick reading tells me they had a lot of spare parts issues with these aircraft and not many sorties were carried out later in the war. It incudes some resin for the cockpit and wheel wells. I couple of schemes included but I think I will go the late war one. 8
Wings unlevel Posted September 13 Posted September 13 A Finnish machine is a fine choice, Ray. FYI in the Hurricane reference thread there’s a link to a walk around of a Finnish Air Force Hurricane in a museum still in its original scheme. I’m looking forward to seeing this one, Ray, and welcome to the build. 👍 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 Thanks Gerard I'll check it out. I do have my own reference handy as well I have started assembly, the resin parts have needed some work particularly making the wheel well fit in the wing, Cockpit in Bit of a gap Fixed Time for some paint so I can glue the fuselage together 11
Rabbit Leader Posted September 14 Posted September 14 Nice choice Ray and your progress so far looks great. Should you need any decals let me know, I’ve got a couple of Finnish examples from a fairly recent Xtradecals sheet going spare. Cheers and all the best.. Dave 2

Dave Thanks Dave, The sheet I have will work fine. I might even bring my Airfix kit into the fold and do another scheme from this kit's sheet. I have plenty of spare 'cockades' to be able to do the second build as I just need the serials from this one. 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 Interior painted, not much will bee seen so I am not that fussed with it. Instructions had the whole interior green. I checked out some of the other builds here to get a more definitive colour scheme. Fuselage together and wings on, seems I took too mush off sorting out the fitment of the wing so some card was needed to fill the gaps. 7
Wings unlevel Posted September 14 Posted September 14 That’s some great, rapid progress, Ray. The work wrangling the resin into place has certainly paid dividends. 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 I have been pottering along with my Hurricane. All was going well, I added some resin underneath Then the carpet monster struck and I lost none of the gear parts, so I decided to break out my Airfix Hurricane and borrow the gear up parts Which means I need to make a stand for it now 10 1
Rabbit Leader Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Nice recovery and inflight pose there Ray, looking really good. Also just asking, how do you find the SMS thin cement? Any different, same or better than Tamiya's Extra Tin? Cheers... Dave 1

Dave Dave, I think the SMS cement is about the same as Tamiya's, I use it more now as it is easier to find than the Tamiya stuff in these parts. Scott is always at the shows I go to so I pick some up direct from him. 1

stevehnz Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Coming along nicely Ray. I built one of these later last year, the U/C bay was the only real hassle I had, things were getting pretty thin by the time I got it to fit, other than that, it was a build I enjoyed & was happy with the result. Steve. 2
modelling minion Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Very nice work Ray and I am very pleased to see a Finnish Hurricane being built in the later scheme, one of my favourites. 2
Nick McV Posted September 24 Posted September 24 Just discovered this, I didn't realise I wasn't the only Flying Finn in this GB! Pulling up a chair and buying popcorn! And she's looking great! Cheers Nick 2
AaCee26 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 This is meeting with an old friend 😀 Sword plastic. A kit I built when it was a new one. Both landing gear and cockpit side walls needed a lot of thinning as well as fuselage sides. Fin sides were quite poor located needing moving ribs on the another side higher... Anyway, it looks good when built, nice surface detailling and it has metal panels on wing after the mg hatches. I didn't see any reason to replace it with the Airfix Mk I. Cheers, AaCee 1 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Well, this one is stalled. I am out of the correct green paint, the nearest hobby shop is 50 mins away and I am off for a week away to enjoy some warmth. So I will get back to this on my return. 5
