Graham T Posted September 12 Posted September 12 Building the SH kit & placement of the tanks is NOT clear - I put them where the instructions appeared to show them but now I've got to the stage of positioning the Korean War stripes, it's obvious that they're too far inboard. Can anyone provide accurate positioning details?
bigbadbadge Posted September 12 Posted September 12 I used the end of the stripes to figure out by eye if I recall , there is a small potion of the top of the T inboard of the tank and the V is between the Roundel and the tank. The rear end of the tank will line up against the panel lines just in front of the ailerons just where it changes angle. Not sure if correct or not but good enough for me Chris 1

It’s a nightmare getting the stripes, tanks & decals lined up!! 1

Not sure if correct or not but good enough for me Chris Can I ask what width you used for the stripes? I believe they were 18" (460mm) which works out to 9.5mm in 1:48. Multiply by 5 gives a total of 48mm which is FAR wider than either the instructions show or for that matter photos! Plus the fuselage stripes on the instructions & photos appear to start at the rear edge of the observer's canopy & extend to the tailplanes - again this distance is far less than 5 x 18" stripes! Could it be that the FAA ignored the spec. for 18" stripes, measured the fuselage from observers canopy to tailplanes, divided it by five to get the stripe width & then simply used this dimension for the wing stripes? I'm highly confused!!
bigbadbadge Posted September 13 Posted September 13 Hi Graham No idea of the tech stuff I just divided the areas used for the stripes areas and it worked out at 7mm per stripe and ghat worked out well. I used the wolfpack wings from their wingfld kit Stripes start at the rear observer cockpit and go to the Leading edge of horizontal tailplane each strip is 7mm. Hope that helps Chris 5
