Ragtag Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Well here we go with my fourth of two planned builds for this GB...oops! My plan for this one is L1679 JX-G of 1 Sqn in early 1940 condition. Something a little different for this one. Couldn't resist this on a visit to my local model shop - this will be a first for me in being both my first balsa model and first model that can actually fly (unless those 20p foam gliders count...). A rather interesting and, er, unique choice of armament for the box art there (and on a Mk.I no less!) What's in the box: Laying out a test fit to see how this all works: Gluing things into place and adding the side keel: Rinse and repeat on the other side and we're starting to get something resembling a Hurricane fuselage: 10
glwanabe Posted September 7 Posted September 7 I enjoy building balsa kits. The Hurricane seems a proper subject to build on given its actual construction. I've probably built about 10 of the Guillows kits from their giant scale down to the smallest. Intrested to see your build progress. 1
Wings unlevel Posted September 7 Posted September 7 This looks like a lot of fun!. Looking forward to the flying shots in the gallery! 1
Rabbit Leader Posted September 8 Posted September 8 What an interesting subject choice and certainly not something I would have expected to see here. That’s not to say I’m disappointed, rather quite interested to see how things go. Cheers and all the best.. Dave 2 1
Ragtag Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Bit more progress with stringers fitted to the fuselage. Now, onto the wings! 8
Nick McV Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Well, this is different! A build that will actually take to the skies! Following with interest. Cheers Nick
Ragtag Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 Not too bad so far, I've been working on this as a side project devoting a couple mins at a time to glue a stringer in. I think covering the frame in tissue might be the time consuming part. 1

Ragtag Posted October 12 Author Posted October 12 Cracking on with this one. I was a little worried about getting the dihedral in the wings but it turned out to be relatively easy: The temptation to glue these assemblies together is strong, but apparently covering each of the sub-assemblies in tissue prior to gluing together is the way to go: 5 1
