Did you use black bodge tape to cover the joints in the panels like we did on Pumas?

Not that I remember. It fitted better than the sheets supplied for the Pumas. And the bodge tape tended to peel off them anyway. 😀

We were constantly replacing the bodge tape, the only time it really stuck was once the non-slip paint had become so worn that it was due for a repaint.  The latter was often done on night shifts especially if Liney sunshine was forecast the following day (it would give the paint time to dry and the day shift plenty of time to refit and tape the panels).

Cockpit fitted, followed by the rear cabin roof, now this is tight!!!! and I  mean really tight fit, a layer of paint makes all the difference, so plenty of dry fitting and scraping to get a decent fit, going to join the fuselage together tonight after milking the cows this afternoon, a test fit suggests it should be Ok. 🤞

Seat belts, joystick and pedals to add as well.

Just a bit of fettling needed, but a decent fit overall, going to be quite a small model.

Glad to see someone's still milking, sir.  The farm I work on got out of milk and we just do beef now.

Good to know there’s another agriculturist on the forum @jackroadkill, ironically we are in the process of selling up!
Going to have more time at the bench which is a bonus, but will miss my girls, although will run on a few heifers, I like talking to them over the garden fence!!

You're doing a great job on the Wessex

I love the impeccable surface detailing Airfix have given us, I usually have to spend hours/weeks adding the little power take-off points down the fuselage under the drivers entry door and the hoist power feed sockets.

Nobody I've seen has put that amount of characteristic Wessex trivia into a kit before.

Really enjoying this one.  👍

Hello

I am not agriculturist but my brother in law and my niece are. Both raise dairy cows, one with Holstein the other with Normandy. Both milk are good.

I hear that.  Whilst we don't miss being tied to twice a day milkings, we do miss the cows.  It's getting on for two years since we got out but I still miss the sound  of the milk pump in the morning when I arrive at work.

Sorry for the slow progress but life has a habit of throwing you a curveball now and again, so time at the bench is limited, so basic construction only at the moment, a few things to note, the attachment points to the sprue trees are a bit of a mare to clean up on things like the wheels and with careful painting and a dark wash the grills around the gearbox and air intake on the nose will look OK in this scale but they cry out for PE or 3D printed replacements.

Weekend looks a bit more relaxed, so hopefully be getting to the point when I can think about some paint.

Would the Airwaves AEC72192 photoetch set for the Italeri HU5 fit, do you think? That has various grilles and bits that might be useful.
Eduard might be on the case, but there'd be a delay of a couple of months I suspect.

Might be an option Steve, building this one mainly OOB, but have another one in the stash waiting for the aftermarket to come up with the goods

As a Maritime interloper - just a quick note to say how much I'm enjoying this build  B)

Nose on, seat belts from Tamiya tape, and IP fitted to combing and overhead console painted.

Test fit of Canopy looks good, decent masking of such will need some doing as there are a lot of curves ( come on Eduard, pull your finger out! ).

Tiny bit of filler will be needed on both Canopy and nose to blend both in, but no big deal.

Great progress and I do like how that from windscreen blends in perfectly with the nose pieces.

It's all coming together.... nice looking detail in the fuselage moulding too!

That canopy looks like it'll take some time to mask .... but not doubt you'll soon have it done!

Your Wessex is really starting to look good - I like the way the canopy/windscreen is moulded

Looking good. I hope you haven't glue the cockpit transparencies in yet? The roof top glazing needs to be clear green.

Just a test fit at the moment Colin, struggling to find a picture to show the tinted top glazing, most in the walk around section appear clear, any help in that direction from you or anyone else would be appreciated, I love spraying clear green!!

Hmm, years. HC2 XV725 in the walk around showing several pics of clear top windows, as is a yellow HAR2 in there. I don't remember ever seeing green windows. That was a Huey perhaps. What I do remember is the green blinds for those windows. A thin concertina folded cockpit green material. Suspended on thin steel wires each side running fore and aft.

And, none of the Wessex walk around pics show even the wires for the curtains. I wonder if they were a Mod for NI or NVG.

Here's another bone of contention. I just had a close up look at pics of the beetle back. Oh dear. It should have large dome headed screws on the spine and all around the bottom edges on the lip that isn't there either. A prominent feature are the louvres on the real thing. Not here though. 😥
