Farmerboy Posted September 1 Posted September 1 Arrived this morning so thought it rude not to share, There is going to be so many builds of this kit and it looks like a good one!! Absolutely no expert on the Wessex so will be looking for help along the way, I’m just a kit basher so have no idea how accurate this model is but the plastic sure looks good. Wash and then some basic painting will be the first task, so let’s see how we get on. Decals look good. Just hope Eduard is on the case re Canopy masks etc. 31 3
Keeff Posted September 1 Posted September 1 And I'm on the front row! Having enjoyed the Sea King build, it would be remiss not to follow this one too.... So, when you're ready!! Keith 😊 1 1
hendie Posted September 1 Posted September 1 I'll follow along if you don't mind. Airfix still haven't seen fit to release or even allow it to be pre-ordered on this side of the pond yet. My first observation is that Airfix have got the Demi Pegasus of 28 Sqn wrong. The Demi Pegasus should be facing forward on both port and starboard sides. I can't really make out the decal sheet clearly so don't know if they've got anything else wrong there. 4
Billos Posted September 2 Posted September 2 1 hour ago, hendie said: even allow it to be pre-ordered actually you can (I just tried) but they want £30 delivery ---$55... $132 altogether...... I want one, but not that much! 1 1 2
Karearea Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Not a helicopter aficionado, but I’m strangely excited by the Wessex. Something about the shape makes me want to pick it up and hover it around the room- definitely on this year’s wishlist when they make it down under. The detail on those sprues looks very fetching. I’m wondering about bodging together a 60sqn example, as the first model I made on my return to the hobby was a Heller Javelin from the same squadron. Really looking forward to watching your WIP. 2 1
Cklasse Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I am in to watch this build. Hesitating to get one when Airfix U.K. wants 75P for shipping a 25P kit to Singapore. 1

Farmerboy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 5 hours ago, Adam Poultney said: Good to see a wip already May be slow progress Adam, but was excited to get one so another model was pushed aside and I will get going on the Wessex, l actually bought 2 so l could get the free Beaufort, the second one will wait until the aftermarket boys have got there bottoms in gear!! 1
Beard Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I'll be following too, if that's okay, my pre-order arrived the other day and I want to see how it goes together.
bigbadbadge Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Great to see one on the go, not ordered one yet, I am waiting to see if they do a Navy machine. Chris
Lord Riot Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Good to see this, the Wessex is my favourite helicopter. I will build some choppers at some point, and unlike the fast jets I might choose 1/72 so I’m interested to see how this build goes. Looks a nice kit.
perdu Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Well there's no way I will be missing watching you with this, I need to redeem a couple of vouchers if Parabellum has these in soon 1
Farmerboy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 Thanks for your interest @Keeff @Karearea @bigbadbadge @Beard @Pappy @hendie @Lord Riot,l shall endeavour to do my best and hold you attention. First thing I noticed was a small confusion in stage 2 of the instructions, no concern to most modellers but to a newbie a bit strange, the arrow showing the placement of the floor panel makes it look like the floor should be set back, with the leading edge going into that slot, it does not! Line up from the back and it will be fine. 6 1

perdu Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Watch what Alan says about this, firstly the 28 sqn Hippogryf emblems should look to the front of the aircraft, Airfix have misaligned one of them, dammit. No chance of a redo on that from them so we need to hope an after-marketeer has an eye for repairing mistakes. I might make redo of XR525 which lives up on a frame near me at Cosford, I have a number (large) of suitable pictures of her from when she was delivered into the collection hall. 2
bootneck Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I shall buy one, even if it is just for the WA decals, which would be applied to a Wessex HU.5 kit. HRH Prince Charles had those codes for his aircraft when he joined RNAS Yeovilton for naval flying training. The code WA was carried on Wessex HU.5 XT481 of 707NAS; following that, XT481 [WA/H] transferred to 845NAS for operational flying training and embarking on HMS Hermes. cheers, Mike 5

Love to see some of those photos please, especially internal stuff if you have some, pictures I’ve seen on the walk around on here show the quilted sound proofing to be a ‘snotty green’, very seventy’s style, yuk!!!
psdavidson Posted September 2 Posted September 2 Seems I'm a bit late, hope there's still space for me to squeeze in 1
Gondor44 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 My two arrived on Sunday evening, so I will follow to find any pitfalls. Gondor 1
Farmerboy Posted September 2 Author Posted September 2 You’re welcome @Gondor44 @psdavidson @Hook, please feel free to add as much as you like to this thread, l too have bought two, the second one will have to wait until some of the aftermarket boys have done their stuff, which I’m sure they will! 1
Gondor44 Posted September 2 Posted September 2 I am considering adding the bits I bought from @hendie to one of mine. Could well be a while before I start as I have a shead load of stuff to get built at the moment. Gondor 1
CedB Posted September 2 Posted September 2 A very tempting kit - I'll follow along if I may and try to avoid ordering one… for a bit. 2
