FG2Si Posted August 31 Posted August 31 My collection of Tamiya kits are mostly large scale ones. For this GB, I decided on something hopefully less involved. This is the recent A34 Comet. I don't have much AM for the kit so that should help things along. Now to wait for the start date. Carl 20 1
Col. Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Nice one Carl. I've yet to see anyone work on this kit. 2 hours ago, FG2Si said: Now to wait for the start date. The anticipation is building! IanC Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Nice. I'm looking forward to this build. I've been thinking of getting one of these, although as usual I'd be happy with Tamiya's own link & length tracks. 2

I even tidied up my bench a bit. Just don't look too far to the left side... Carl 6
Col. Posted September 4 Posted September 4 That is a tidy bench Carl. Hope you don't get too bored in the meantime 1

FG2Si Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Okay time to get going on this build. First up, the lower hull. It's a flat pack style. There's a bit of interior detail on the bulkheads which I found interesting. The hull sides have an interesting design. Suspension arms are.next. Last for now, the outer hull plates. More to come. 17
FG2Si Posted September 7 Author Posted September 7 Thanks @Col.! The kit is going together so smoothly. Which is what most folks expect from a Tamiya kit. Carl

FG2Si Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Not a lot of progress recently but it's still a bit. The kit has moulded on grab handles which I scrapped off and started replacing with the ones included in the Passion set. The Passion Models set includes a new 3 piece travel lock. I got it off the printing plate and assembled on the model. Not sure how without it breaking. Last one for tonight, I removed all the road wheels from the sprues and sanded the sprue attachment points. One thing I miss is my carpet monster. She'd find me at the bench and curl up in my lap. Most any part that I might drop would end up landing on her and was easy to find. . Sadly, Fursnake (that's what my wife named her) passed away just before Christmas and her understudy hasn't quite figured it out yet. As you can see here: Anyways, now I have to get on the floor and hope I find any parts I drop. Like the road wheels. Carl 7 4
Col. Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Those part from Passion Models look great and are a huge improvement over the kit parts. Nice progress Carl. 2
FG2Si Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 I got the road wheels ready for paint. First I sprayed Tamiya Rubber Black for the rims, and then used a circle template to do the wheel itself. I also did the tracks while I had the airbrush out. For these, I used Tamiya Dark Iron. I did a test fit of the Bronco track but they didn't fit great on the drive sprockets so I'll be sticking with the kit ones. 9
FG2Si Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 (edited) While the wheels dried, I painted the lower hull as well Then I assembled and installed the road wheels. So far, the kit is going together beautifully. Carl Edited September 10 by FG2Si Fix typo 10
Col. Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It certainly is going together well Carl. Nice progress 1
2996 Victor Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Great work, Carl, looks like this is a great kit! So sorry to hear about the loss of your furry helper, hope the understudy (name, please!) gets the hang of things soon! Cheers, Mark 1 1

She was a stray that my wife adopted. Sunny, the understudy was also a stray we got as a kitten. He's around 5 years old. Still has a way to go. Carl 2
FG2Si Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 I started on the track today after work. The kit link and length worked out very nicely. One side done. Followed by the second. 9
FG2Si Posted September 11 Author Posted September 11 Thanks @Col.! That's definitely the kit and not me.
