nimrod54 Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Having completed the 'Stripey Eurofighter Typhoon', I thought I would make a start on this Revell C-17 as my second build. Once again, some parts are off their sprues, but everything is bagged up and unstarted. This will be an OOB build but I am not sure which of the two options on offer to choose. The choices on the decal sheet are 'Spirit of Berlin' or Spirit of the Wright Brothers, I will make that decision later. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr We are away for a few days next week but I hope to make a start before we leave. Lex77 Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Got this one in the stash so looking forward how it builds up! 2
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted August 28 Posted August 28 Well John… Never thought Id see one of these in a build. The sheer size alone is daunting. 2

It's not too big in 1/144 scale Dennis, just a little over 14 inches in length and wingspan - which is smaller than the Airbus A340 that I built a few years ago. Painting the thing is going to be fun though, I may need to pratice juggling for this one. John 2

I was thinking it was the 1/72 monster that I keep hearing about. 1

At double the size of this one Dennis, I would definitely have trouble smuggling a box of that size within sight of SWMBO. 🤣🤣 3

Will be following. 1
Marklo Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Apparently there’s a website that will put fake ‘you’ve won this kit in a competition’ paperwork in your order instead of a sales invoice. 3

nimrod54 Posted September 21 Author Posted September 21 For the past few weeks I have been painting the interior and cockpit of the inner fuselage insert. I hadn't made things any easier for myself by deciding to open the rear door which meant a bit more work than would be required with everything closed up. One issue of note was the passenger seats along each side of the fuselage, the detail on one side was a little soft, and on the other the seats were virtually non existant. After painting the main areas of grey and silver I masked each seat using 1mm tape for the gap in between the seats and 2mm to define the top edge. My advice to anyone considering a build of this subject in the future would be that if you plan to have the doors closed then, with the exception of the cockpit details, don't bother painting the interior - because little will be seen. Having chosen to lower the rear door, I had to cut up both the interior and exterior parts. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr The passenger seats required masking, these were then painted with Citadel's Corvus Black. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Then this afternoon I assembled the interior fuselage and floor parts, starting with the starboard side. After that had time to dry a little, I glued the port fuselage section in place. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr Cheers for now. John 11 1
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted September 21 Posted September 21 A lot of work to do a full interior clean up. Its looking good though. 1
Romeo Alpha Yankee Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Nice to see some progress John. I'm sure of what you will see of the interior it will look great in the end. 1

It's definitely a labour of love Dennis and a bit gimmicky. I think that I should be able to find a suitable US vehicle in 1/144 scale to stick in and fill some of the space. Thanks Ray, I have since glued up the fuselage halves, opening things up has given me something to think about when I come to paint it though. John 3

Just checked it’s 1:148th pretty darn close at that scale. Im sure you can find something ? Might consider using a 1/144th apache, just fold or remove the rotor blades. 1
dnl42 Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Ooh, I definitely want to see this built! 12 hours ago, nimrod54 said: It's definitely a labour of love Dennis and a bit gimmicky. I have an M1A1 for the C-17 in my stash. I'll likely get some of those Miniature Tanks Co models, too.. 1 1

MiniHobbyModels is Trumpeter's subbrand for their older stuff that was incredibly rough even when new and probably cloned from some other manufacturer, so they're seldom promoted Even in 1/144 the C-17 is imposing, this is going to be quite the conversation piece once completed. 1 1
nimrod54 Posted October 25 Author Posted October 25 I am not sure if I will get this one finished chaps/chapesses, I was waiting for paint and after another slip in delivery I gave up on the original supplier and acquired it from elsewhere. That arrived in the middle of the week, so it is going to be a final push to complete the last few assemblies and get on with painting. I have ordered a couple of Bradley's and they are on their way from the US. Cheers for now. John 2
Marklo Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Not to worry. For me it’s the participation that’s the main thing. 1 1
