theplasticsurgeon Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Joining you with this kit. The only eligible kit, residing in my stash since 1999. Instructions. A record breaking aircraft in its day. This being my preferred option. And decals. May they be well behaved. 17
Col. Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Full credit to Tamiya for choosing to kit this esoteric subject. I'm looking forward to watching your progress with it Tim 1
jean Posted August 26 Posted August 26 A truly beautiful kit to build. You won't be disappointed. Have fun. JR 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 6 Author Posted September 6 Start day, and the parts - removed from their bags for the first time. Beautifully crisp, engraved detail, no flash - everything I'd expect of Tamiya. 14
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 9 Author Posted September 9 Cockpit bits being prepared. That's a primitive looking seat. 13
2996 Victor Posted September 9 Posted September 9 Nice start, Tim, primitive seat or not! Looking forward to your next update. Cheers, Mark 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 10 Author Posted September 10 Cockpit crammed with lead, then assembled. Then the rear parts prepared, and assembled, to look like a Skyray. The definition and fit is superb. 20
Col. Posted September 10 Posted September 10 It looks to have come together well Tim. Nice progress 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 13 Author Posted September 13 The results of a morning in the airbrush workshop with a tin of Humbrol 22 Gloss White. Funnily enough two F-111s were in there as well. 12
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 14 Author Posted September 14 Airbrushed topside Humbrol 40 gloss grey, then demasked. 13
Col. Posted September 15 Posted September 15 Good to see this one moving through the painting stages Tim. Ready for the decals now?
Olmec Head Posted September 18 Posted September 18 I built the same kit for the USN GB a year or so ago. Your's is going significantly better! It is a nice kit and looks good. You might find the the 'stars' transfers a bit challenging to fit, I had to bin them and go for the Marine markings. The other difficulty is getting the red intake warning markings to conform, they are very solid. I ended up painiting mine on and using the rescue wording. 2 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted September 20 Author Posted September 20 Canopy framed properly, and start of the decals, which are fitting and performing beautifully. There's none on the other side yet, nor those wingtip decorarions on the underside. 11 2
Col. Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Glad to see the decals are performing well Tim. Are you using any softeners to assist them? 1

theplasticsurgeon Posted September 20 Author Posted September 20 And now the other side. Not many decals left, but intake warnings are amongst them. 12 2
theplasticsurgeon Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Undercarriage, arrestor, and payload fitted. And up onto her pins, no tailsitting here! 6 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted October 4 Author Posted October 4 Which brings this build to completion. 16 2
Keeff Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Very nice! I do like the finish you've achieved with the enamel... top work! Keith ☺️ 1
Colin W Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I was in New Yoark last week and actuially saw one of these for the first time on USS Intrepd. Its as pretty in real life as the model. Great job getting the decals on the tanks to join at the front, never an easy operation. 2 1
