Franz75 Posted September 6 Posted September 6 Ooo, you have painted over the Black Widow😁. It looks nice. 1
Wings unlevel Posted September 8 Author Posted September 8 Verdict on the black and white dividing line?? The midstone and dark earth, meanwhile, I had a crack at freehanding. Not amazing, but not terrible. Probably good enough to replicate a rough field repaint. As my wife always says, it’s good to try new things! 9 1
glwanabe Posted September 8 Posted September 8 The line looks good. Ya see what having positive waves will do? 5
modelling minion Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Its a mother, beautiful line and its exactly where its supposed to be. Nice work mate 👍. 1 1
Rabbit Leader Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Two ticks from me as well, however your wife’s line ‘it’s good to try new things’, can be taken many different ways….. you know they don’t think like us modellers do you? 🤔 Cheers.. Dave 5 1

Thanks Craig, sometimes I can struggle to keep on the straight and narrow! 😂 9 hours ago, Rabbit Leader said: your wife’s line ‘it’s good to try new things’, can be taken many different ways….. you know they don’t think like us modellers do you? 🤔 Yes I think she means by trying new things travelling somewhere new or eating unfamiliar foods, not trying new modelling techniques! 😂 I am glad I experimented with freehanding. I think with practice I could get ok with it, although especially on a 1/72 model a smaller airbrush needle size would help? Maybe that’s what wifey means by trunk new things! 5
Wings unlevel Posted September 19 Author Posted September 19 Decals done, for the most part. A few more stencils to apply and a few issues to fix - I didn’t get the tail flash decals to overlap property- the starboard side decal looks to have moved out of alignment. I have to decide whether I can live with it, or fix it through removthem and painting them instead. I’ll also need to paint on the red gun port covers as I tore one of the decals for these removing it from the backing paper. Oh and I accidentally broke of the little antenna wire mount on the vertical tail too. Still, am getting there! 13
Andwil Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Well it’s looking very good despite the minor problems. AW 1 2 1
Rabbit Leader Posted September 19 Posted September 19 That's looking really lovely Gerard. Not long until it's all on show in the GB Gallery. Cheers.. DFK 1

Thanks gents! For better and not hopefully for worse I’ve decided to have a go at painting the tail fin flashes. Hopefully I can get reasonable colour matches… 3
wimbledon99 Posted September 20 Posted September 20 Good luck Gerard. I’m sure your decision will only add to what’s already a lovely build. 1 1
Franz75 Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Wow, I'm jealous. Your kit looks fabulous, and you're almost done. 1

Not my best work but it’s been a fun build so far. Speaking of not my best work, I have masked and painted the fun flashes. Good in theory but some touch ups are required! Will take a photo when it’s in a better state! 2

Wings unlevel Posted September 27 Author Posted September 27 Repainting the fun … I mean fin flashes took a bit of work due to my shoddy masking, so there were a few rounds of touch ups, but I got them to an acceptable state. Then, after a gloss coat over the decals, it was onto some weathering - an oil wash, some chipping and some Tamiya smoke for engine smoke stains. It was quite handy working on the 1/72 build ahead of the 1/48, so I could practice some rusty skills on it before tackling the bigger build, to the 1/48’s benefit. Nearly done now! 12
Franz75 Posted September 27 Posted September 27 Both are very nice. Weathering is superb. I love it. 1 1
