DaveJL Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 With the A-10 finished, I spent a couple of hours on this today. I do still intend to build the F-35C.... 🤪 Front undercarriage bay was detailed and assembled: Then fitted to the cockpit, allowing the front fuselage to be closed up. Construction on the main fuselage has begun: Intakes will be next. My aim is to have the majority of the build done before I go to France in a couple of weeks which should encourage me to crack on when I return to allow me to start the F-35 Dave 11
Parabat Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Coming along nicely, I should be in similar position in few evenings time. 1

wimbledon99 Posted October 9 Posted October 9 I put ‘f-14 1/48’ into the eBay search bar, and there was a new f-14a staring back at me 😍 1

DaveJL Posted October 13 Author Posted October 13 A bit of progress over the weekend. Intakes first, base of white, masked off and then Light Ghost Grey. I maintain that getting the masks in place here is the most difficult part of this build . Click fingers and the fuselage is assembled. As @Parabat has mentioned in his build thread, the larger of the ECM blisters are a little tricky to assemble, namely a large seam down the middle. I find the easiest way to sort this is to fit the parts to the fuselage when the glue is still wet, allowing you to manipulate the parts to get as neat a join as possible. Leave off the intake trunks to make it easier to sand and tidy up said seam. The majority of bits are now ready for primer: I got a little painting done - both coamings with the Quinta canopy jettison handles added. The grab handle on the RIO's part was 'chipped' with an AK pencil. I plan to get the ordnance and hopefully ejection seats painted at the weekend prior to my trip to France next week. Dave 10

DaveJL Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 Progress over the weekend. Some of the most time consuming bits are out of the way . Firstly, the wonderful MCC ejection seats. Easily the best I've seen in 3D print! Some paint then: The trusty Brassin 3D overhead ejection handles were added (these are now a 'must' for me ) along with the centre handle from the Quinta set and stencils on the headrest from a Furball decal sheet. GE-110 exhausts next. Inner faces were sprayed XF-2, masked then XF-69 Nato Black was sprayed on the outside. Once cured, I used the 'petal' masks from the new Ware sheet to make off the black before lobbing on a few coats of MRP Titanium. Once done, some Tamiya weathering powders on the inside to finish. Ordnance next. Not much on this one. Decals all from the kit, bar the bomb art which is from a beloved old Fightertown insert: Still have plenty to go around the other four OEF F-14s and one F/A-18C I have planned . I remember using this stencil sheet years and years ago when I first got into 1/48 kits and it brings back fond memories (not so much of the Hasegawa kit but we'll brush over that 👀). Happy with that. I'm away France for a few days this week so won't get anything else painted until the latter half of next weekend. Hoping to get the undercarriage done shortly after. More soon. wimbledon99 Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Hi Dave, This is lovely progress. I’ll look up this ‘petal’ masks; they seem to be worth their weight. Safe travels. Looking forward to more when you’re back

modelling minion Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Very nice work Dave, the seats looks superb as do the exhausts and I really like the graffiti on the bomb.

Col. Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Those MCC seats really are top quality stuff and your top quality painting has brought out all their lovely detail. The bomb certainly benefits of a couple of stencils from that Fightertown sheet as well
Parabat Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Agreed, the MCC seats are a really worthwhile buy, the detail is exceptional.
