Only have the one kit in the stash for this, probably will be just the one entry as I've done 2 other phantoms this year and might enter another in the twins GB if I pull off a paint mix.

Hi Stu.  Just be aware of the auxiliary intakes on this kit.  The early releases had them too far forward.  Fujimi eventually fixed the problem.  Have a look on the inside of the fuselage.  This is what the retooled parts look like.    Dunno if your boxing is before the re-tool or not but, as they say, to be forewarned is to have four arms.

Hi again, Stu.   I believe your boxing may have the incorrect position of the intakes.

Here is the entry from Scalemates.

I know for a fact that the "Sharks Teeth" boxing from 1987 had the incorrect position, while the Raspberry Ripple boxing from 1988 had the position fixed.

It's not difficut to fix the error, especially if you have the doors closed.   Just fill the kit doors and rescribe.

Wanted to do a 56sqn grey one for this but as my kit is sans RWR and I'm not going to enter a second now I've settled on a grey 19sqn FGR2 that lacked the RWR, just hoping the modeldecal decals I have for it are still good, least I have a spare set of arifixs stencil decals if they at least aren't' up to the task, just hope the specific ones are good

I have found a couple of 56 Sqn aircraft without the RWR, but these are in the Green/Grey camo scheme.

Remembered I had actually settled on a a 6sqn early grey one as I got things out to start which proved tricky due to wing serials decal issues (all sorted now with a different air frame), and that will now be what I will do. I then took a look at the spare airfix stencil decals I will use on it and have spent the last hour in the fetal position, maybe I should use the model decal stencils I have and hope they don’t disintegrate

And we are off to a mixed start, half the fuel dump pipe has gone awol as happened on the previous 2 phantoms I’ve built this year, least I’m used to scratching new ones by now, also forgot to prime one of the main sprues so wings  will have to wait, not a problem, sprue injectors marks in the intakes to sand out IMG-8129.jpg

Those darn pesky fuel dump pipes. It’s a very common thing on most phantom builds. You’d think they’d just make it a single piece to be glued into the fuselage ?

Canopy was hard work and I managed to drop it last night, no damage to the canopy but noticed this morning a wingtips missing and I can't find it :(

Desparing had a real good look, moved the bench and had several hoovers and search through the contents of the box and it’s not turned up, in a cruel irony the other half of the fuel dump vent has turned up, easier to scratch than a new wingtip given it’s not a simple shape on the phantom :( :( :(

I had a similar issue last night - The Third Shock Offensive by the Carpet Monster. A tiny control column pinged off out of the tweezers. I thought I heard it 'tic' off the table and presumed it must be somewhere on the carpet.

Nope.

Checked what was on the table - book, sprues, instruction booklet, under things, over things.

About 30min later, with two torches, sore knees and no control column, I was starting to resign myself to either scratch one or leave it out of the build.

I had one final idea - there is a coffee tin doubling as a paintbrush holder. Emptied it and there it was, all 5mm of it, at the bottom of the tin. So, don't give up, look in random places, you may get lucky.

Ive had stuff ping into my paint-rack countless times. Pick each bottle up only to find its the last bottle. Next time start with the last bottle only to find its no where near it. Murphy is a cruel master if you ask me.

Unlikely it’s in the painnt racks given it landed under my chair and that, me and the bench was in the way, still going to attempt a second bench move and Hoover in daylight
