Okay folks.  I have an announcement.  This one gained some traction very quickly and is now in The Bunfight.  However, I believe this GB is a special case.  Although Yoshio Tamiya was the founder of the company, it was originally a sawmill and lumber supply company.  It was Yoshio's son, Shunsaku, who turned it into the plastic model production company that we all know today.  Shunsaku had a huge impact on the modelling hobby, driving standards of detail and buildability that became seen as the benchmark for other companies to aim at.  In a very real sense, Shunsaku Tamiya has made this hobby what it is today and I believe we all owe him a debt of gratitude for that.

Therefore in consultation with @Colin W and @Mjwomack we think it would be inappropriate to expose this proposal to the savagery of The Bunfight for a possible slot next year.  Instead, I feel it would be right to have this as soon as possible as a tribute to Shunsaku Tamiya.  The GB will therefore commence on Saturday 6 September, finishing on Sunday 30 November.  We have had a few In Memoriam groupbuilds before so I feel this is entirely appropriate.

I have spoken.

This is The Way.

Great news.

Over a year away!

How will I ever decide on which kit(s) to build?

Something from the cupboard or something nice, new, and enticing from the local Hobby Store?  So many to choose from.

Maybe I best wait until 5 Sept, 2026 to choose?

cheers, Graham

I now need to risk another stash collapse to find a kit

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I suffered a minor Stash Collapse a few days ago which revealed a 1/20 McLaren M23 which I had forgotten that I had.  So that will be one of my builds.  :bounce:   🏎️

In case you're wondering why we were privy to the inner sanctum and the thoughts of The Magnificent One©️, we're your hosts.

Less than a month to go shopping, activate an emergency stash excavation and generally 'Buy 'em all'- a necessary precursor to 'Build 'em all.

On a more serious note, I think this will get VERy BIG and I'm co-host on the 220 yrs of Railways Gb at the end of the month, so we might be looking for extra hosts/ hostesses.

Well, a stroke of luck for me ..... I have a 1/48th P-51 Mustang under the unit next to my table ..... or should I go and suffer the heat in the loft for a rummage in the not-a-stash stash ... so I have something less time consuming to build :hmmm:

I'm very happy how quickly and conveniently this became reality. Thanks to proposer-hosts and our very Magnificent moderator!

I just did a stash check. One Tamiya  proper scale P-51D kit, an Eduard canopy mask set and several decal options spotted and marked for this GB

Furthermore, do you really want those kits, suffering up in that heat uncared and unloved? I also do voiceovers for charity adverts (Facebook Fact!)

Mein Gott... now to figure out which F-14 gets built first. I'm thinking F-14D.

Decisions, decisions.

I have to say I really like the flexibility of being able to kick off a GB early.

The speed of takeup for a Tamiya GB and the passing of the founder of the company are both very good reasons for this to happen. Well done Enzo.

I can hear it now ....

Have you got a stash of kits ..... in storage, alone, unloved and suffering in the heat?

We need your help to reduce the suffering. You can contribute to our Group Build by building just one of your kits ..... just one kit can make a difference to the stash ....

We're waiting right now for your contribution ..... so sign up and relieve the suffering of a kit .... remember, you can make a difference ....

.... and as if by magic, a build appears already!

A quick internet browse found an affordable Tamiya Soviet JS152 and the button was clicked pretty pronto.

It's going to be combined with a pack of Tamiya infantry, that have been here for ages, and a long planned for diorama now looks like it's going to happen.
