glwanabe Posted August 2 Posted August 2 My submission is another 1/24 build Hurricane. I'll be doing my best to get work done here, as well as finish up some details on a previous project so it isn't just looking pitiful sitting in a corner Don't have any history to share of these particular acft and their squadrens. Life has been more than a bit busy these last few months, and I haven't had the free time to get much done outside of Family events and work. Probably going with this scheme. The wings have a wierd line on both upper and lower panels. Almost like they were crushed, but they don't appear to be. The box was packed well, and shows no damage. The fusalage halves look fine. We will press on. Overall it looks like a nice kit. A little different than the Airfix kit, but similer in many aspects. 9
Parabat Posted August 2 Posted August 2 Nice. I think those lines are just 'flow lines' where the plastic has cooled during the moulding process. https://baiwemolding.com/flow-lines-in-injection-molding/ 2
Wings unlevel Posted August 2 Posted August 2 A 1/24 scale cannon armed IId - that will be quite the beast when built! By all accounts that is a decent kit, so hopefully it proves an enjoyable build and provides some good down time outside of real life. Welcome to the build. 👍 1 1
stevej60 Posted August 3 Posted August 3 Great to see one of these big beast's here I'm building the MKl outside of this GB and it's been hassle free so I'd expect you have no issue's either.Good luck. 2
glwanabe Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 A few hours of free time this afternoon so let's get some work done shall we. Obligatory Sprues pics. Good detailing Good detail, won't really be seen. Big guns! Various bits and pieces. Overall the parts have good detail that should show up nicely when complete. Several parts won't be seen once buttoned up. Time to build. Happy Birthday to my oldest Grandson, Finn. On the 26th we fly from Houston to North Carolina for the youngest 2nd Birthday. Miss lily is growing to fast. 10
glwanabe Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 Instructions look pretty straight forward with 26 steps. 8
Wings unlevel Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Despite all that plastic it doesn’t look an overly complex build. And yes, some very nice detailing. Should look fantastic when done!

Should look fantastic when done! Agreed with that thought. I'll get the sprues washed and start shooting some primer at pieces. Still have a Revell 1/32 kit waiting as well. 2
glwanabe Posted August 5 Author Posted August 5 Skipped the cockpit for now and started on the engine. Will get some painting done on Friday. These parts are all pretty clean will far less flash than the airfix kit. I'll work on some of the cockpit Friday as well as get fusalage interior painted. That's it for today. We'll be back. 11
Wings unlevel Posted August 6 Posted August 6 Hope there won’t be too many dark nights getting this one built. 😂 1 1

glwanabe Posted August 8 Author Posted August 8 Major parts test fit to hopefully avoid fitment issues later. Released the fusalage, Wings, firewall, gear bay panels from the sprues. Gear bay, and firewall needed a bit of sanding but not to much. The upper wing panels show a bit of gap that I'll need to check a bit more. Looking to avoid excess putty filler. The wing joins the fusalage pretty clean for the large bottom section. Gear bay needed minor sanding, and shows fairly tight joint all around. Main firewall slots into place well. Needed a little sanding. The front has a bit of angle that needs to be observed as part of the wing dihedral. The backside of the piece is the front of the gear bay. Fits decently. The major assembly seems to go together fairly well. getting back to the engine and cockpit assembly now that this has been checked. 13

KX413 is a Mk.IV, not a IID, is not a trop version, and the codes are Sky, and serial is black. Code letter maybe M as well, and likely the roundel colours are wrong, and if the profile is right, then some are mis proportioned as well. This is KX413 Mk.IV have added radiator armour, an up armoured windscreen and added applique armour under the cockpit, late IIDs have the same fuselage armour added. There were very few IID's used in the UK, mostly by 184 Sq. On 02/08/2025 at 22:26, glwanabe said: Don't have any history to share of these particular acft and their squadrens. Agreed, spent a few hours in the evening cutting out various bits and building sub assemblies. Didn't get around to any painting yesterday. Hopefully next week when I come off shift I'll take a day to get some done. I need to do some research based on what Troy has provided. Might just need to paint the proper squadren codes. 1
glwanabe Posted August 9 Author Posted August 9 Building up as much of the small assemblies as possible. Should reduce total time for the build and let me paint more in one sitting. Exhaust stacks, these will need sanding after sprue release. Rudder, elevators, radiator internals, fusalage fuel tank and more engine bits. the fusalage fuel tank will be hidden once installed, so it will not be painted. Same for the wing fuel tanks. The rear of the engine won't be seen, so minimal detail work will happen. The sides will get some attention, but most of it, will not be seen. Back to night shift tonight. 9
Wings unlevel Posted August 10 Posted August 10 I always enjoy putting together sub assemblies, an always satisfying way of feeling like you’re making progress. 👍 2
glwanabe Posted August 12 Author Posted August 12 (edited) Off night shift this morning. It's my tired day as I work to get turned back to dayshift for Friday morning. Managed to get a little paint thrown on a few of the pieces. I'm choosing to paint this how I want which may not be perfectly historically accurate but it's nothing to wild. We can think of this 2 ways. 1. I'm on the Star Trek Kelvin alternate timeline so what ever I do, is correct. 2. This is GL's freshly restored acft, and I choose to have it painted this way. Current acft have all sorts of colors on them, so whatever I do is correct. Various bits Firewall action Cockpit framing, Decided to paint fusalage walls a bit lighter with the grey green. I'll use the cockpit green for some dry brush shade tones. Will be doing highlights with some drybrushing. As well as adding several sidewall bits that need to go in. Will spray the black pieces tomorrow and see about getting the rest of the engine bits on. Still have several Cockpit pieces that will need to be brush painted. Not planning to show much in the way of weathering. Just enough for some good contrast. Edited August 12 by glwanabe 10
Rabbit Leader Posted August 13 Posted August 13 Just catching up on this monster 1/24th scale build and its looking quite good. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of all those rivets, however in this scale it's probably well justified. Cheers and all the best going forward... Dave 1

Franz75 Posted August 15 Posted August 15 Looking great so far — nice work! How are the decals in that kit? Trumpeter can be a bit hit-and-miss with quality. I’m really looking forward to seeing it all come together; it’s going to be an absolute beast!

Hoping to get a little done this weekend. I'm not a fan of the instrument panel design as supplied. Might have to look into something aftermarket. 5 hours ago, Franz75 said: Looking great so far — nice work! How are the decals in that kit? Trumpeter can be a bit hit-and-miss with quality. I’m really looking forward to seeing it all come together; it’s going to be an absolute beast! I hadn't built a Trumpeter kit before. The plastic is pretty nice, and the decal sheet looks good. We'll see once I start applying them. I'm considering an attempt to paint the code letters and serial numbers.

A word of warning on Trumpeter decals,I find the colours too bright and I had a nightmare with the 1/32 Spitfire build needing after market after they just fell apart, also for my MK1 currently being build I simply bought Techmod decals for the same colour issues added to that the same issues for this GB with their sister company Hobbyboss on their Hurricane IIc where again AM decals were needed their favourite error is supplying the gray codes in white!

Good to know! I was considering a set of techmod if I could find some that would match a unit of this acft. Seems like I might need them just for basic roundels and such.
