Popular Post woody37 Posted July 28 Popular Post Posted July 28 Inspired by seeing the last Beverley albeit in bits at the Solway air Museum recently, I had an urge to build one. I was tempted with the Combat models one, but cost and size influenced a turn to 1/144 scale as well as the fact that I've got several other builds in this scale to display it with. Really enjoyed the build, it's tricky in places, but many in this scale are and the complicated shape doesn't make it any easier! There's something about the post war white / silver + blue cheatline that I like, so this was the scheme I chose. The kit markings are for XB267 with the letter T, but photo's ont net indicated this was XB287 so I printed new codes on clear decal paper and played safe. The interesting thing is that various photo's of XB287 show different amounts of lower port windows so I can only assume that some were either painted over or deleted...or added! If anyone can shed any light, please do. Painted using MRP lacquers, the silver was a mix of Super silver and light sea grey, the cheat line was Oxford blue and obviously white. The dayglo markings were a mix of dayglo red with some normal red and the roundels are from Xtradecal as the kit ones are too light. The build is here: Quote Anyway, here's the pics: It's hard to gauge size on the Beverley due to it's unusual shape so here's a few for comparison! Thanks for looking 71 2 21 4
jenko Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Brilliant. The best Beverley I've seen. I know the kit too well. It makes Classic Airframes shake and bake. That is one to be really proud of. Dick If you get the chance put it next to a Herc. It's a monster in comparison. 2
ForestFan Posted July 28 Posted July 28 That’s a splendid build, looks great (as do your other builds in the pics), well done 1
Viking Posted July 28 Posted July 28 That's fabulous Neil, it looks really attractive in that scheme, I wish I'd done mine in it!. Love the exhaust staining too, Cheers John 1
stevehnz Posted July 28 Posted July 28 That is a fantastic result, thanks for the comparative shots too, not just for the size but also how completely anachronistic the Beverley looks against pretty much all you put with it, even the Carvair. Steve. 1
Lupo Rosso Posted July 29 Posted July 29 That's great! I really like the Beverly. I built the Welsh Models kit of it many, many years ago, but it certainly doesn't hold a candle to yours. 1
Dunny Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Neil, Lovely work - the contrast of the beautifully crisp scheme plus the weathering makes for a most pleasing finish, Cheers, Roger 1

Thanks Dick, it was your great build that spurred me on, it came just at the right time after seeing the real thing! I've seen @Viking Johns photo's of both together, the Herc looks tiny in comparison. I'm wanting to do more in this scale for space reasons. Quite fancy the Argosy, Hastings, Hercules, V-bombers and some of the large American props 4 hours ago, Lupo Rosso said: That's great! I really like the Beverly. I haven't seen the Welsh kit in person, but from photo's I've seen on the internet, the Mikromir kit looks like a better kit to work with. Thanks for all the kind comments guys. Whilst it isn't the easiest of kits, I've enjoyed it more than some that go together with ease. I guess it's the sense of satisfaction in having to put your skills to the test. Cheers 1

Sky Keg Posted July 29 Posted July 29 That`s pretty cool and very unique. A lot to like about this one. Mike 1
Dave Slowbuild Posted July 29 Posted July 29 You’ve made a superb job of this one Neil. The exhaust staining, the overall finish, it all looks great! I need to look into those marker pens, could be a real time saver…. Dave 1
kev67 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Great looking Beverley, I think in all honesty you do the best weathering on your models than many other modellers 1
BarryB Posted July 29 Posted July 29 That is absolutely brilliant, as are the others used for comparison. I love the accuracy of the paint job at this scale, and the weathering is a masterclass. The Beverley is a huge but strangely beautiful aircraft (casts mind back wistfully to the one that used to be outside RAF Hendon in the '70s) As for the BAF cargo, another weird but oddly pleasing shape (casts mind back wistfully to Southend Airport in the late '60s and early 70s watching these being unloaded/loaded) 1 1
mitchem Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Brilliant ! 👍👍 The model looks more like 1/72 than 1/144 - kudos to your skills... ...and I'm pretty amazed at the size comparison shots. Great viewing pleasure all round. mike 2

That said, where does logic ever come into this hobby? 🤪 On 7/29/2025 at 10:09 AM, Sky Keg said: That`s pretty cool and very unique. A lot to like about this one. I remember the Beverley outside Hendon too, it was such a shame when it went, this was where my interest came from. I never got to see the Carvairs but the aviation sights and sounds we took for granted in times gone by are nothing but fond memories now 😢 Cheers
alhenderson Posted July 30 Posted July 30 That's a beautiful result! I hadn't appreciated how large the Tristar was until I saw that side by side comparison! Al. 1
stringbag Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Very nice as usual Neil. I'm another fan of that particular colour scheme too. All the best Matey. Chris. 1
ajmm Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Absolutely stunning work on a far from simple kit. Superb modelling, congratulations! 1
Ad-4N Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Some of the finest exhaust weathering I’ve ever seen in any scale, let alone 1/144. Fantastic build. 1
Alpha Delta 210 Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Simply outstanding! You've taken me right back to my childhood, visiting the Historic Aircraft Museum at Southend and seeing Carvairs on the apron at Southend Airport! 1
