Looks ok? Maybe a touch lemon-y?

I think you're right. I'll have another look in the paint store, to see if I have anything more suitable.

A sudden burst of activity, unaccompanied by photographs, and the cockpit is installed and fuselage halves joined together.

Thanks for looking.

The fuselage halves went together ok?

They went together fairly well. I let the glue (Tamiya white label) act for a while then fiddled with the fit before applying the tape. We'll see how successful it was when I remove the tape later today or tomorrow.

While I wait for the glue on the fuselage halves to set, I've examined how the lower wing will fit.

At the front:

A little bit of sanding and scraping later...

Nearly there.

You'll notice the seam on the front lower cowling. I went for the best fit at the top.

Thanks for looking.

That’s tidy up fine. Nothing too dire to fix.

There was a fair amount of filling and sanding involved but it was nothing too dire.

Here it is now...

The white bits by the cockpit are my attempt to replicate the added armour.

Very effectively done. Oddly, I don’t mind filling and sanding, it can be quite relaxing…

Neat.

according to some, was a MkIID but this: http://www.airhistory.org.uk/Hurricane/p055.html has it as a MkIV.

Correct.   There were very few IID used operationally  in the UK, and those that were flew with 184 Sq.

Note FJ-G in the background has reversed upper colours

Medium Sea Grey inside UC doors and gear legs, and AFAIK, the inside of the wheel wells too.

Hello Troy,

I was hoping you might stop by.

I wish I'd noticed that (you can guess why).

I think it'll be yellow, on my one.

I wasn't sure when the wheelwells started to be painted MSG so went with Aluminium.

A small amount of progress. I've painted the Sky band...

I'm contemplating painting the yellow identification stripes on the leading edge and then masking for the main colours. What do you think?

Thanks for looking.

Nice to see paint under way.

Thanks. There's quite a bit of painting too do and I'm farting around with a Hasegawa F-4S and A-1J (as well as two Hurricanes) so it may take a while.

Gloss coated and ready for the decals...

I think I'll be using some spares for the codes...

Nice to see this one coming along quite well too @Beard. The decals will soon elevate it to ‘eye candy’ status!

Looks like a lovely gloss coat.

Thanks but don't zoom in... it covers average (at best) painting.

It's coming along, the guns need to be assembled and stuck on.

I've run into a bit of a problem with the decals.

I don't think the supplied codes are the what anyone would call 'Sky'.

spacer.png

The problem I have is that the Sky codes I have are not the right shape, they're too thick.

I'm off to have a trawl of the Internet and see if there's anything more suitable.

Thanks for looking and opinions are welcome.

Hmm.  Sky, despite what many model paints and decals show, is a pale yellowy green.

The kit ones look better than the AM ones, which look brownish..

The kit codes don't look too bad.   Try painting a bit of plastic card with Colourcoats Sky,  and then lay that over the decals.

Bear in mind that the band and spinner were factory painted, and the letters were done at unit level,

See https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/70201-tempest-ej693-medium-sea-grey-squadron-codes/

The band and codes are both Sky.

woodhouse37-1.jpg

I think in real life Sky needs very careful stirring to get all the pigment up from the bottom of the can...

In short codes and  and they don't need to match ;)

Thanks @Troy Smith, that photo is very useful. I'll use the kit's codes (not that I could find any suitable aftermarket ones).

Some progress, the decals are done and the big guns have been attached.

Next step is to attach the undercarriage.

Thanks for looking.
