I don't think you have overdone it at all based on the picture you posted before, I think you nailed it. I don't blame you for getting carried away and adding the weapons and landing gear, its great when things are going right and you are on a roll. A real shame that she's a tail sitter mate, will you be gluing or pinning her to a base? Cheers Craig! Other than the tricky u/c doors, it all went rather swimmingly! As for the tail sitting, I’ll fix a bit of clear rod to the display shelf to keep the nose down.
coneheadff Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Looking great, Dave!!! Your build made me buy a GWH A-10...and a lot of aftermarket stuff 😁 1
81-er Posted October 4 Posted October 4 I don't think your weathering is overdone compared to the photo either, Dave. My favourite bit is how nicely you've weathered the canopy masks She also looks wonderfully beastie with all the ordnance on too. Could you pop some weight into the nose gear bay to help keep her nose down? I had to do that on my Eduard Mig-15. Thanks for the tip on the varnish, I'm off to the Brampton show tomorrow, so I'll see if I can pick a bottle up James 1

Hopefully the GWH kit goes together nicely. 10 hours ago, 81-er said: I don't think your weathering is overdone compared to the photo either, Dave. I did put as much as I could fit into the nose area before closing everything up but I didn’t account for the hefty resin at the back 😝 2
DaveJL Posted October 7 Author Posted October 7 Nearly there! Popped In the ejection seat this morning and added the canopy opening mechanism, which is very nicely done by Academy. Some weathering as per my references also added. To the canopy then. This is maybe one area where Academy could have added a little more detail, even if it was just the rear view mirrors. Luckily the trusty Eduard set was close at hand: Further details were added, with references, for the final time, taken from the Reid Air book . There is a static electricity diverter or 'zipper' strip on the canopy, which is nicely moulded by Academy but does need painting. Heavily thinned Tamiya XF-16 was used, with the inevitable excess removed with a cocktail stick. I also added manual canopy opening handles (yellow bits), some placards from scrap Quinta sets and a map reading light (which was the tip of a Spitfire exhaust stack ). I added a thin bit of sprue to add an emergency canopy cutting knife on the starboard side, though it's hard to make out. One thing that I couldn't add due to lack of enthusiasm (skill) was wiring and a sensor beside the 'zipper' strip for the Helmet Mounted Integrated Targeting system. Other jets such as the F-15/16 and FA/-18 have their relevant sensors on the canopy framing but the A-10 just likes to be awkward 🤪. Letting all that dry until the morning before I pop it on. Will be RFI tomorrow. Dave 9

81-er Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Yet more beautiful work there, Dave, this one's a real masterpiece James
DaveJL Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 Thanks chaps. Canopy on, so we're done! Popped it on the display shelf and, who would have thought, she's no longer a tail sitter More photos in RFI: Thanks as always to those who commented on/followed the build. Really enjoyed this one and I highly recommend this kit! Dave 9 1 2
81-er Posted October 9 Posted October 9 That's a stunner of a build, Dave, well done! Thanks for joining us with her James
modelling minion Posted October 9 Posted October 9 Absolutely fantastic result mate, she looks superb. Your usual very high standards of building and painting from start to finish has resulted in a great looking model. Thanks for having taken part in the GB and very well done again on creating such a fantastic model.
