bianfuxia Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 I've put this off because the ANZAC GB ends soon and foolishly I have 3 builds running in there. But I did finish the sanding to my satisfaction, re-touched the grey and I've put on a coat of green following the diagram in the instructions (roughly). Sorry that pic is out of focus - stupid phone - but I think the colour tone is about right? Maybe the green needs to be darker but that shot is right under a bright lamp. I'll probably stick with it. 9
Marklo Posted August 31 Posted August 31 7 hours ago, Romeo Alpha Yankee said: Colours look fine to me. I’d agree. Remember too in the real world, colours would vary from batch to batch and from each application as well as weathering and fading. So the authentic paint chip is just a guide and there should be a certain amount of variation from model to model. 1
Illusive Posted September 10 Posted September 10 Painters and artists in general often use colors that are "close enough", lots of them are mixed by eye anyway. 3
ajmm Posted September 28 Posted September 28 This kit is truly gruesome (I finished one a few weeks ago so I’m full of sympathy!) but you’re smashing it into shape. Dead impressive. 1
bianfuxia Posted October 26 Author Posted October 26 Well, I'd almost forgotten about this one but I realize it's quite close to the finish line - both for this model and for the gallery in this build. So I've now done the landing gear - quite primitive even by the standards of this kit. One nose wheel fell off moments prior to taking this photo. I'm no expert on the Canberra but I feel like the main wheels are a bit too large. I've got no alternatives, so here we go. It was a tail-sitter so now I've stuck more bluetack and fishing weights in the front. To paraphrase my kid's joke book: Why was the Canberra flying so erratically? Because its pilot was a lump of lead. Why did the Canberra miss its target? Because its navigator was a piece of bluetack. I also painted the tailplanes and basically once the u/c i set, I can do the small number of decals, add the canopies and this is more or less finished. 7
bianfuxia Posted Monday at 10:33 AM Author Posted Monday at 10:33 AM I was halfway through posting these pics... ...and commenting about how it leans forward too much, when I realized I'd put the fin flashes on backwards. The red should have been in front, not the blue. Luckily for me I could find some spares in the decals box and - while this close-up photo is no good - I saved it. Ignore that white-looking line, I think it's just the light reflecting off the Mr Mark Softer that's still there in this shot. Then I did the canopies, which aren't as bad as I was expecting. They still need to be painted. The nose wheels lean pretty badly to one side, as well. The butt joins front and rear look pretty terrible. But on balance, for what this is - a tiny short run model - I am quite liking it. Very close to the finish line now. 6
ErikT Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:35 PM For such a rough kit, you've done a terrific job cleaning it up! I can't wait to see it finished. I've always loved the Canberra. 1
bianfuxia Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago Well I managed to drag myself away from the Bunfight for long enough to finish this one... When I finally stuck the tailplanes on, WHAM. It was a tail sitter. So off came the canopy and in went a whole lot of tiny little fishing weights. I didn't even bother glueing them or securing them - this plane won't be doing any aerobatics. There are so many blemishes on this model I've lost count. But at the end - and bearing in mind it's pretty small in 1/144 - it does look undeniably like a Canberra. The colour scheme is (I think) how it looked when the RAAF operated these Canberras in Viet Nam. The last shot shows it next to the only other 1/144 aircraft I have from roughly its generation - the Academy B-47 and the Trumpeter Tu-16 Badger. Both are quite a bit larger as you can see. This pic also reminds me I must dust the shelving! Thanks for following along and thank you for the encouragement to get it finished! 2
